Title: Silly question!
Post by: Si on 19 April 2005, 19:28
i was reading into another post earlier and sum1 was saying about an Ecotec Valve for a 1.6 'Driver',
now i dont mean to sound dumb but ive heard of Vauxhalls Ecotec engine, but what is an Ecotec valve, and what does it do?
would it benefit my fuel consumption?
does it do anything to the performance?
Where do i buy one?
How much are they?

Cheers!

I always thought its something to do with lean burn. it lets air into the cylinder and leans out the mixture a little and its supposed to make your engine more efficient.

I've got an ecotech valve on my 16v.  It was there when i bought the car and the previous owner said it improved consumption.  Don't know if it does cos i don't know what the car was like before.  It makes a kind of sucking noise.
Not much help i'm afraid!

This (in my opinion) is another one of these widgets that no one can ever provemakes any difference. I wouldn't bother. You're better off spending your money on proper tuning stuff.

^^^ word to big bird!! they seem to work best on carb'ed engines but in reality most people would pick speed over a slight increase in fuel economy!!! buy the go faster bits instead!!!
