Hi all.
I need new discs and pads on the front of my golf, its a mk3 gti 16V 97 (R)
Any good advice on what brands i should buy would be great.
Im pretty sure that they are 288mm discs? ( is this right)
The car does not get drove hard at all and doesnt see tracks so it does not need to stop on a pin head.
The brakes have never been changed, so im thinking of replacing the back pads and discs at the same time just to get it done and out of the way.
All help appreciated
Thanks

Yours should have 288mm discs as standard.
The choice you have is immense, all depends on how much you wish to spend. If it's just going to be for normal use i would stick with a good standard set up from a reputable manufacturer.
I am currently using Brembo fronts with green stuff pads but only because i got them cheap !!!.
You can get grooved, drilled etc but in your case i would stick with the above.

same as gasketface, does depend on how you want to use them (how you drive), i went all out and got a pair of ebc turbo drilled and grooved disc's and green stuff pads and sh#t do they work! saved my driving licence loads of times. and look great throw the wheels. got some green stuff pads to go on the back but cost to much to fit at mo as need to sort out my n/s calliper.
if you got around £300 ebc all the way. buy them on ebc on-line shop fast deliver and discounted.

Standard genuine VW pads, discs and a brake fluid change should be more than adequate.

If the car is standard, Stick with standard quality
Go for the Pagid Range (they produce the original pads on most VAGs) so you are getting Original Parts, with a great saving.
Don't forget the 25% forum discount, or 30% discount which is currently available on the website!

Yes the car is standard, so i am going to stick with standard quality. I have just been on this website looking at the pads and discs. The pagid range like you mentioned above.
I think I have the 288mm front discs, from what i can gather on this site so would these do the job?

What is the difference in these two sets of pagid rear discs? and which ones would i need for my car?

apart from the price??
again looking at the pagid front pads, there are three different types that range from £28 to £47. some have wear indicators some dont! do i need these i use the car so little i pressume i wont so would these do?

last but not least the rear pads there are a choice of two. only difference is the thickness of the pad and the thicker is the cheaper?

think i am about there now with the parts that i will need
Can you let me know if these are right or more importantly wrong!!
Cheers
