Title: Fastest Golf Insurance
Post by: clipper18 on 19 April 2005, 16:12
Does anyone know of the fastest golf i can get for under £1000 per year on insurance.i'm currently 19 and have 3 years no claims.....my currently drive a 1.8 clipper but its just that slow it irritates me...been looking at the g60 with the square front lights, they really are sexy cars. Sorry if this is really brief but i'd just love to get a faster golf.ty

aside from the insurance.. how much can you afford to lay out on the car ?

ps. if by g60 with square lights you  mean the one in my sig below, then you're talking about the golf rallye

yeah..that is BY FAR the tightest golf i have seen and that is what i would be after, id be prepared to lay down the same again maybe £1500 if it was worth it. but that thing kicks at 0-100 in like 8.7 dont it? that insurance group i wouldnt be able to touch.

you wont get a rallye for less than 4k, theyre not mega fast in standard form, but pretty rare...

a mk2 16v is probably the best you'll get for your budget, but it wont be mint.. have to keep your eyes open for a bargain.

All depends on how much you can afford to spend on a car to start with and the up keep.
If money is not the point then

A Golf Limited  I insured all 300 pony's for £380 this year.

On the serious side you could look into a Rallye (G60) and think about having it on classic insurence

He may have had an accelerator plan thing, or he maybe thinks that 30% no claims that you get in the first year equates to 3 years !

Who'd be dumb enough to part with a Rallye for £1500?

I remember my first policy on a Mk2 1.8 GL was about £1200, but that was my very first car when I was 20 with zero no-claims.

£1500 could get you a decent enough Mk2 16v, 138bhp, but just get an unmodded car, then you can mod it later when your insurance has come down. Do what Dizzie has done, start with a standard Mk2, then stick a 1.8 Turbo lump in it later, get yourself 200+ horses.

If you like the square lights from the Rallye, you could always fit a Rallye grill and lights (but they might be hard to find), the cheaper alternative is a Jetta grill and lights.
But you won't find any sort of body kit to give you the flared arches and body of the Rallye.

Whatever you do, don't buy a Mk3 GTI for that price, cos it'll be a lemon.
Read some of the buyers guides around the place, take your time, don't buy the first thing that comes along.

I have seen q few Rallyes now going for around £1500 but the reason for it is cause the shell is in a bad state, sills etc. rust so when they do get that bad they are really only worth what the engine and 4wd is worth.
The reason behind the Rallyes and rust is if they haven't been looked after well, the arches sill etc... came from motor sport factory and there they don't do as good a job as the main vw production line thus teh rust setting in earlyer.

So not really worth 1500 quid then, unless you want the engine / box / 4wd stuff to drop in your project

or you have a lot of money to get vw to get there pattens out and make you new sill etc....

vw here tell you they can't get them, but if you go to a vw body shop they can order them, and have them made up but be prepered for a 4 week wait.
