Being a tight**s i thought i'd get one from my local dealer only to find that it's not available as a separate part. Not sure the parts guy really tried so does anyone know if this is available as a single part ?.

That is correct, it is not available without the base from VW, I made my own out a piece of old inner tube.

Yes I spent ages looking for one of these seals as the genuine part from VW is not available so I had to buy the complete aerial base for about £24.00 I wish I had waited now and bought the seal off this ebay seller.

The ebay ad says it can normally be fiited from the outside without the need to remove the head lining. Is this true in peoples experience?

NO!

You will need to take the aerial off, and disconnect the cable to slip the new seal in.

ah. So the headliner and interior trim needs to be removed to get at it. That sounds like a real pain.

Just remove the trim running along the top of the boot. You should be able to get in there without bending your headlining too much, and you just need to pull the co-axial connector apart, then undo the securing bolt. Nice and easy!

I replaced mine by sliding my hand between the headlinere and roof. You hust need to undo a nut on the inside to remove the areal base then you can fit the seal. it is a 10 min job.
