Hi,
I've just read on an ebay ad that the head gasket tends to go on GTis around 80k. Is this true? My mk2 8v's done 101k and it worried me when I read that.

Head gaskets can go anytime so i dont know where the facts is that they blow at 80k?
Seen some that have blown at 180k
Though I have a few mates with mk3 VR6's on J plates and they tend to blow alot

Blow at 80k? bollox

Are you sure they weren't talking about timing belts rather than head gaskets ?  :undecided:
As Blue says, head gaskets can go at any time.

its probably just a blag on epay

Probably right. Fit a new head gasket and get 50 more bhp.

What a load of rubbish. You can get as much as 200,000 miles out of one of these engines without ever needing to take the head off. Just depends on how the car has been treated and maintained. Overheating is the quickest way to knacker a head gasket, not to mention warp the head.

Correct indeed Richard

Just read the ad. Personally I would never remove the head from a perfectly serviceable engine.
If it isn't broken, don't mess with it, more likely to do more harm than good

As my dad always says
If it aint broke
Dont Fix It!

lol, that's what I meant to say.........but yeah, you got to agree. Its not like a timing belt/tensioner, oil change etc that you need to change as part of a schedule. Its like saying, I better change the windscreen as I've heard they can break after 80,000 miles

...and they've taken the le castellete wheels off the Rivage ! What's that all about ! They've also changed the steering wheel (which it says) and the gear knob. Also what's this about the timing belt being £4 ! The last one I got from VAG was £12 and then there's the labour to have it fitted on top of that.
