Title: Mk2 Headunit Removal

Hi everyone.  Does anyone know the best way to remove an old stereo headunit from the dash of a mk2? Mine is an old Alpine that doesn't appear to have any holes (covered or otherwise) for extraction tools, so I assume I need to get behind it. Any advice much appreciated. Jon

I think there must be some hidden way of releasing it. Does it have a plastic frame surrounding it that can be removed? The Panasonic one that came in mine has a couple of very small levers that need pressing down with a screwdriver on either side - not obvious at first.

I don't think you ever need to get to the back of a stereo to remove it, that is just too much like hard work!

Does your old alpine have a removable faceplate?
If so remove it and have a look at the sides behind the plastic surround there should be two little levers that need to be pushed up (or down) using a small screwdriver. Alpines nearly always have this type of fitting so the plastic surround cannot be removed with the unit in its cage thus resulting in a much better/secure fit.

Thanks guys I'll try this out tonight. The Alpine has a removable face plate, so hopefully Tobzman's comments will be spot on. Cheers
