Title: 50 to 80 in 5th

Just wondering what time it should take an 8v to get from 50mph to 80mph in fifth gear.My 8v takes 14secs my wifes 16 valver takes 16 secs both standard exept for k&n in 8v

what about yours ??

I think the reason why the 16v is slower is because it's not working at it's maxium power to rpm. they both seem really slow though  :undecided:

ill give it a burl on the way home at lunch!

though 50-80mph in 5th in a 16v is way below peak power. ur talkin 2.5k rpm - 4k rpm

there could be so many comments about torque and 8V's vs 16V's but I'll keep stum.......

from looking at the counter on the cd it takes 11 seconds................im sure that is highly accurate tho.......

So its as accurate as measuring something by using your arms as a guide and walking to the other side of the room...................... :huh: :grin:

i'd still be in 3rd at these kinda speeds  :grin:

like dizzie said its about the revs.. if want access to the power you gotta work a 16v to keep the revs up..
3rd gear is good for about 80 ish in a mk3 valver.. i doubt theres much difference with a mk2 valver

how high does a mk2 16v rev? a mk3 16v redlines at 7200..

aye mk2 16v redlines at 7200, but there's no point going over 6.5k in them as the power tails off from then onwards

done the little test last night and i timed it at 14s using the stopwatch on my phone!

i've heard of people using their cd players.. they press play at start of a track.. then hit pause at 80.. lol..

did this yesterday on the bypass. 50 to 80 mph in 5th. it takes 5/6 seconds going by the cd player.

did this too, counting 1 mississippi 2 mississippi 3 mississippi ........ in my head on the way home - 10 secs

so give or take a few :)
