Title: Part Number help - Front Air Intake Cover
Post by: paul54 on 31 August 2011, 17:11
Hi guys,

My car is a March 2010 GTI. After a bit of research, I've noticed that some of the later GTI's come with a sealed Front Air Intake Cover, i.e. without the cut out shown in the picture

I've been to the local VW garage trying to do some R&D to find the part number for the uncut type intake cover but they weren't very helpful.

As you can see it has 3 simple clips and pops off easily. The part number of mine is 1K0.805.965.M

So my leading question was if MK6 GTI owners with the uncut type could note down the part number so I can go buy one from the dumb stealer's. Thank you :)

Cheers

Paul (This is my first thread, many more to come!)

P.S. Is there supposed to be a pipe connected to the outlet pointed out on the inlet manifold? Just looks odd...

No pipe on the inlet is normal

1K0 805 965 M 9B9 is the current part number for that cover, also checking each MY between 09-12 they now all list the same part for the GTI.

Yeah I've seen these too on other MK6 GTI's.

I'd like one for mine too, saves big things going down there...

Don't you need a remap to run a full airintake system though Neil?

There's lots of people out there! People that what exactly? If it's the part number SteveP put it up on the first page.

Is this part supposed to have benefit over the other part?

I am pretty sure the current part is the version with the hole, you can't buy the older closed version.

I'm thinking the reason there is an opening to this cover is to compensate for the noise pipe that was deleted in the latest model. Mine makes a very satisfying growl and it seems to come from under the bonnet.

Could you not just pop it off and note down the part number please?

I've had one of the very first GTIs in the UK, May 2009 registered and now have a 2011 registered car.
They both have the same inlet thingy. The 2009 car sounded nicer though.
