Title: 4 speed to a 5 speed

i have just bought a mk1 its a 1976 mushy pea green 1.1 with a 4 speed box i have a 1800 and a 1600 5 speed box are they compaterble and do i need any extra parts thanx stu.

I think you can put the 5 speed one on but don't quote me on that!  ;D

As far as I know thats a no my son

the 1.1 has an O84 box and the 1.6 and 1.8 will have an early version of the 020 box.

So as such the gearboxes are different. Not 100 percent sure but pretty close, besides the ratios will be well out on the bigger boxes.

Best bet is to get a POLO 5 speed box from a MK2 polo.

Modulator is correct...........1.1 and 1.3 has completeley different gearbox to the 1.6 and 1.8. Engine and gearbox are physically different.
