Title: What sort of life does your Golf live?
Post by: Thom89 on 28 August 2011, 00:39
My Golf stays garaged all year round, only coming out for shows, and fine evenings in the summer, mostly to keep the battery charged. The Golf will be SORN from October, and re taxed March/April time dependent on the weather. My car has covered less 1k in the last 12 months, but typically around 2k a year in the last 6 years, but I do drive it like it should be driven

My Mk3 8v does at least 150-200 miles a week commuting to work but it gets washed and cleaned every week, i drive it like you should but i make sure it's looked after and despite being 15 years old is still a nice drive.

As with all my cars my mk2 lives on the drive in the wind rain and snow it gets driven 10 miles a day to work so the 130k on the clock wont go up that much and gets a good clean wash and polish every 2 weeks the wifes mk4 is about the same but with 100k on the clock gets cleaned once a month if shes lucky and ferrys 2 kids about.

mine gets driven every day,

always gets serviced on time and needs for nothing

just wish i could drive it more(the wifey uses it as it`s the main car)

only downside is she gets it washed by the local £5 car wash :lipsrsealed:

now my passat wagon, does 40 miles a week, never washed or serviced, it gets parked up all week, but suprisingly it`s never let me down(and it`s getting treated for action )

My mk2 gets pampered much the same as yours Thom, as I've spent a lot of time and money getting it where I (nearly) want it.

The Mk4 gets abused by the wife and my little boy!

Glad mines not a golf otherwise it would bring the standard of this thread right down! My Audi has a pretty hard life compared to all you guys!

Gets washed once a week or every two weeks if I don't get time, does approx 400-500 miles a week, gets serviced on time though, but by myself because I refuse to pay more than I need to just for a stamp...

Mine lives like a King

Built mine to use tho

And I do use it - every single day come rain, shine, snow etc.. dont see the pont in putting them away in a garage..

My car is kept in mint condition - id say better than the ones that are kept for show use only. it does take a lot of my time keeping it this way but i enjoy it almost as much as driving it

It never lets me down, its been the best VW iv ever owned

You need to stop being obsessed with the car and spend a bit more time on home maintenance issues!

Lives in the rain and cold, used as a daily work horse and gets a wash once in a while. Does get the occasional pamper and any mechanical issues are sorted out promptly. Beginning to look a bit weather beaten now though so need to give her a bit of tlc and make her feel good about herself again, she has just recovered from a heart transplant after all!

Mine does 500-700 miles a week. Serviced every 3 months. When things break they get replaced and it gets washed once it gets to this stage....

Mk1 lives in the garage and has been retired to fine days and weekends after 15 years of daily loyal service.
Mk2 lives in the garage but may end up been used over the winter depending if i bother to fix the winter hack  :undecided:
Mk6 gets used as my daily 8-9 months of the year and is garaged over night but gets uncared for and abused by the VW dealer..

Mine lives on the drive until it is completley finished.Although it gets washed thoroughly every week and waxed monthly. It gets pampered all the time and it rarely turns a wheel other than to turn it round.
Erm....as it happens ive never actually driven it on the road

Her Mk4 has only been with us a week but in that time it's also been on the drive and im currently refurbing the engine. That will be her daily to get rid of Pedro the Puma!

Gets used n abused all the time. Serviced all the time. Only let me down when the throttle cable snapped.

Currently stuck over the bank holiday weekend cause was sticking a GTI brake set up on but have cracked the sump. So had to go camping with a 1l Fiesta and I still prefer the Golf.

My mk2 lives in a garage, it gets driven briskly on back roads for fun on most weekends when its not in bits as a 'rolling project'. It may be spared winter duties of weekly trips to edinburgh in I find the right impreza, fancy a go in one for a few months I think....

Gets used and abused, day in, day out! when it breaks it gets fixed and is always in and out of the paintshop as I can't stop painting stuff on it! Should be a daily hack that's left alone but I'm an addict and I can't lol!

A happy one I think........
Used daily for the commute, approx 100 miles per week.  Random 400 mile ish round trips at least once a month to family and friends.
No expense spared on servicing and staying ahead of the game with maintenance.  The receipt folder is about to burst (not all of it boring servicing mind you!).
Lives out in the cold and rain but gets washed by me once a week, polished/waxed and hoovered out at least once a month.

mine has done 216k. lives on the drive. i work less than a mile away from home so dont commute but it gets used regularly. probably not daily as i dont necessarily drive daily but i have no qualms ablut jumping in and driving anywhere, rain or shine.

come winter time the wheels get swapped for g60 steelies with winter tyres though

Mine got it's face smashed in 7 years ago and was locked away for a very long sleep

Gave it a face transplant this year and has had quite a bit of TLC since. (not enough though).  I treat it with the up most respect as much as I can.  Limited to 3k a year and it's nearly done that since March.  Car is officially SORN from today.

Mine's a daily drive but lives a pampered life really! Doesn't cover many miles at the moment but was doing 400 odd a week at one point last year. Lives in a garage overnight, washed every week and abused at weekends. Gets genuine parts where possible, every job is done to the best of my ability and it's serviced twice a year.

Takes a lot of my free time and pretty much all of my free money. I shudder a little if I think about what I've spent! It's a little bit of an obsession and I get grumpy if I can't spanner for a few weeks :undecided:. The 'sensible daily' has become more of a weekend toy. Will be getting tucked up at the parents house if my move to London for work goes ahead though which will suck.

My Mk3 valver is a daily, does nearly 80 miles a day on workdays, lives on the drive (garage is taken up by the camper), gets used to take garden rubbish to the tip, and gets cleaned ... occasionally.

On the other hand, I bought it a year ago with 101k on the clock, it's now got 124k and has barely missed a beat, the one time it hit trouble was only a split vac hose and it still got me home (a bit jerkily).  Apart from a decent exhaust I've hardly done anything to it bar a bit of rust treatment, and it still knocked out over 153bhp on R-Tech's rolling road.

The missus was so impressed she bought a Mk3 8v to replace her Fiesta when it died last winter.   After a good service that one hasn't had any issues either.
