Hi Guys, I have a '97 GTI and I have read on here several times about people having immobiliser issues with their cars.
Am I correct in thinking that all GTI's from 1994 onwards had an immobiliser as standard? If so, where or how can I check if my car has one?
I have had the body of the key apart, and I dont seem to have a chip inside so maybe someone had problems before and removed any trace of it. I have done a search, but as you can imagine the 'car not starting immobiliser' issue gets thrown up time and time again and that is all I can find.
This is more of curiosity type of question.....
Ta very much

Factory immobiliser was 1996 onwards, 1994 will not have one.

Ok, well mine is a 1997 model so I presume there is (or was) one it. In that case, where would I check?

Take off the cowling around ignition, you will see a creamy thing around the lock with wires going into it, thats the transponder.
sometimes you will find the chip taped to the transponder if the lock has been changed or is a bit iffy.......
