Title: Waste gate rattle
Post by: Jimble on 26 August 2011, 15:16
More of an update than anything else, mentioned in another thread that my car was in yesterday for a couple of things but can't remember which thread
The waste gate rattle was one of the issues and as Snoopy has said they found a TPS on it but the part isn't available from VW UK and has to come from Germany! They said it was a "modified" cover? Any ideas what that could entail to replace? He couldn't tell me!

The other issues for anyone interested were a clunk from the tailgate when going over bumps, they said this is most likely one of the struts that holds the tailgate open as it has "a bit of play in it"
I'm not convinced tbh, they've lubed the seal but i still think the latch is buggered! They don't have the part for this either.

And the last one was the knocking/tapping and general rough feeling under the pedals, i went out with the tech when i dropped the car off and he said he couldn't feel what i was on about which i half expected really, he just said "these are rough anyway!" to which i replied, "it wasn't up until about 6 weeks ago!"  anyway, obviously as he couldn't feel what i feel then it's not been sorted.
I'm going to keep an eye on my tyres as i think it may be something like p3asa has found, perhaps i've knocked the tracking out or something as there are loads of speed humps round our way.

Would be good to get to a meet with other mk6 drivers off here that could have a go in it to compare as i may well be going nuts and there's actually nothing wrong at all!! :embarassed:

The waste gate fix is a U shaped clip i have the 9 page TPI which funny enough also includes 6 pages of fitting instructions
It also says on page 1  to install you "Remove the noise damping according to repair manual" "Remove the drive shaft protection according to the repair manual"

There is a lonnnng back order for the clip though.

Check the end of the tailgate struts are not rubbing the paint on the tailgate channel it sits in when the hatch is closed.
Or/and check the latch is actually tight as they work loose.
Or/and check the rubber bump stops are holding the hatch tight on the latch.

That clip is the only fix for the waste gate rod rattle and the official fix by VW. I guess you could call it a cover to some degree. Just don't say about the fix too loud as they have not told the Americans yet

Thats great Martin thanks, i'm a member on that forum but don't go there very often, it's interesting he says in that video that it's not vw's procedure? Why would you do it any other way?

In light of recent posts in other threads i'm starting to wonder if the issue with the rough feeling under my feet is my tyres? I've got Dunlops on mine and they're pretty crap tbh, the road noise has got worse of late so probably a combination of rubbish tyres and a little bit of tracking maybe?

Try playing about with the tyre pressures alittle and see if the roughness goes away that will at least tell you if its the tyres.

I'd hardly consider a Yank as a term of name calling, it's a traditional phrase and not used in the same light as the anti nuclear or anti US forces ''yankee go home'' type thing used by some countries years ago. Citizen of the United States is a bit of a mouthful so you'll have to put up with the Yank description!! You're Yanks, we're Brits, we have different cultures but we get on just fine.

Unless our cross-Atlantic cousins have a preferred term they'd rather be addressed by?

i firmly disagree with you exonain, been an american.

so what do you call someone from pakistani? or india? or from china etc? yeah thats right those short names that get thrown about in private are clearly racists yet because the general consensus when talking about americans is a white man/woman its not racism because they are white..

grow up don't be rude and be polite to an international forum.

So many bees in that mini-bonnet or is it a maxi-chip on that shoulder?

I could be truly International just for you. But it's late and I cannot be bothered for now.
However, I am more than willing to oblige and provide you and whoever is interested with a copious list of names and I'd love you to sue me!

Now, may I gently and politely request YOU grow up or shut up, please?

typically rude post on the internet forums..

why did you remove the list of racist comments if you think its ok?

i just think a level of maturity and respect for everyone that uses the forum is needed. its a good forum no need for racism. i don't mind the banter like everyone else but there is a line.

Well there's obviously an underlying issue as to why you Citizens of the United States don't like being addressed under that term which us Brits are unaware of so on behalf of the 60 odd million of us I'd like to apologise (and should you think that was an insulting sentance please remember that us Brits have a sense of humour). Please enlighten us as to what is offensive about it? I'm baffled and too lazy to google, having heard your own country folk use the term on many occasions it's just an innocent nick name to us the same as an 'Aussie' is from Australia. To us Citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain it is just ... ah bollocks I can't be bothered anymore, too tired with some funny bug I picked up on my holiday in the United States of America (which is where I genereally holiday funnily enough, and thus offer no 'racism' towards any Citizens of The United States of America despite being on the recieving end of it a few times).

Us Brits generally call people from Pakistan 'Pakistanis' and Indians 'Indians' because that's where they come from. I work in a massive building with Pakisani nationals, Indian nationals, French, Polish, German and even a Canadian. We get on just fine. No rascism but plenty of banter.

I tend to find Citizens of the Untied States of America very insular in their views so I'm very surprised that all of a sudden they think everyone is being rascist against them, that's far from the truth. I'm not going to get all political because I don't do politics, but there are obviously certain nations and factions that don't get on too well with the United States of America but Britain isn't generally one of those and we've supported (against our better judgement sometimes) a lot of very contravercial US decisions as a close ally. I think you'll find most of the anti-US sentiment in the UK comes from either Socialsits who just need someone to hate or those that don't actually hold UK passports by and large.

You've got to understand how us Brits tick really, we're a pretty downtrodden and slightly anarchic nation by and large thanks to many generations of imperialism followed by a couple of generations of that all blowing up in our face despite the fact that it was only ever the ruling classes that benefitted from the imperialism yet the rest of us are now supposed to happily accept being saddled with the guilt of our masters' previous indescretions. Okay (horrible American term), it's obviously a lot more complicated than that and not everything is black and white.

I'm bored now so will end with the words of a North African student who was working with some of my colleagues a couple of years ago: ''When I was growing up we were told that the British hate us, but I came here and find that you don't - you hate everybody including yourselves and you can laugh at yourselves and make fun of yoursleves and now I understand the famous British sense of humour.''

PS. I'd happily emigrate the the USA if I was in the position of being able to and if I ever do I will endeavour not to call you the Y word. Despite still being mystified as to why it's offensive.

exonain,

it wasnt aimed at you in anyway other than i just disagree, it does differ depending on what north/south states your from, mainly in the smaller towns.

as for the names for races across the world you have actually typed it the PC way i was referring to the more shorter racist terms. some people don't mind been called it and some take serious offence but am1w posted alot racist word on his post (which has now been deleted) and although might have been in "gest/humour" its not funny really and i as i said a level of maturity goes a long way..

as an american living in england for most of my life i do understand the british humour.. but again there is a line to it or at least there should be...but there is no place for racism. if you or anyone thinks its not then fair enough but surely as im not the only one thats mentioned it, it should just be accepted as not something to keep saying.

as a 'northerner' we don't go around calling guys from london by the many names we have for you guys and there are alot of offensive ones..

so lets just be civil about it. im not here to moan. lets just talk about cars.. thats why were here.

I'm still a little baffled as to why the Y word is considered offensive so will have to guess it has slavery overtones? I've just never known the Y word to be used as an offensive name, that's all. I've just questioned a few friends and family members too who all agree that it is just used as a friendly nickname for US citizens in this country and has been for generations, a bit like we're called Limeys from the scurvy and syph ridden sailing days when our gallant press ganged teenage boys were sent off to die at sea in the name of our glorious empire. No offence taken or implied.

The P word or the N word I can understand, that somehow implies a misguided white supremacy, the Y word is used for something altogether different. Geoff meant no harm.

Why would an American (US) citizen want to live in the sh!tty UK is even more baffling? I can understand Krazy_Z and Dawn who are merely here because that was where they were posted to save us from the former Commies who have now decided to become Neo Nazis, but for God's sake ... why would anyone from the USA choose to live in Broken Britain? It's crap! I'd be off to the States in a shot if I had any skills that would actually get me a wage over there, even my Missus would be keen to go. Most of the Y .. err I mean Americans I've spoken to on my holidays over the last 6 or 7 years have said their country is going down the pan ... they haven't been over here have they? Jeez it's sh!t here and just to compound matters - you can't even buy a decent model of People's Car for under £30k!!!
B*ll*cks, I'm off to visit the US embassy right now, f*ck Britain ...

most americans don't care its a small minority that do.. and its probably down to alot not been taught or understand their countries history.

i don't care when close friends call me it but i know they say it in gest but wouldnt call an american stranger it.

its going back to the civil war and american history in general and i guess now i take it as a lack of respect to brand everyone under the same name when were not.. in that meaning alone you would be branding me a racist white american.. when im not.. i know you dont mean it that way.. but thats down to some not understanding the history behind it or its become so mainstream.. probably due to the ny yankees?

yeah it is going down the pan over there.. its hard work but ill be moving back when ive sold up the businesses, i do think this country would be alot better if it was more patriotic like it used to be, have better weather like the warmer european countries which would allow people to be more social and interact after work.. everyone these days seems to be indoors. wake up, go work, drive home, stay in front of the tv lol.

reason im here in the first place is my granddad was posted over here in the war as he was a pilot in the air force, he was kia so grandmother stayed over here but going back and 2 all the time... i still go to the family reunions in PA but as the older generation are passing away it be comes less and less as all my generation are all over the states so its harder for everyone to get together..
