Just thought id start this thread as i have always thought that the Bolf when done properly is a great looking car.
so here is a few questions on the conversion and what people think of it.
is it a straight swap?
does it make a lot of difference to insurance?
Does everyone like the after market front end or a smoothed standard?
Pic? or favorite bolfs?
Looking forward to the replies on this one :D

Yes it bolts on but you need everything incuding slam panel
Lots of work.
-
I like Boras. I don't like standard Golfs.
Bolfs can look awesome!
-
DO you have to remount the rad?
-

Lots of work.
No need for the slam panel, all you need is the wings, bumper grille and bonnet.
And it'll take someone who is competent with spanners 1.5-2hrs max.
-
Or someone with a decent spanner set

Interesting, the couple I have seen on ED38 changed the slam / front panel. :undecided:
Headlamps are needed as well.
-
Sockets are easier.
-
From what ive read and seen you should change the slam panel.
-
I've got one, you don't need it.
Forgot about the glass bits at the front. Haha.
-
oh right, would changing the slam panel make any difference? yeah the headlights of course!
do you have the standard bumper? or an after market one?
-
You will need to tell your insurance company btw.
-
"Hi, I'd like to declare that I've done a Bolf conversion"
"...alright mate. Thanks for calling."
You need wings, bonnet, headlights, grill and bumper. The bumper is needed because it is a different shape to the golf bumper, because of the square headlights.
I love well done bolfs, will post some pictures later on
-
please do... looking forward to seeing it.

Well any mod needs declaring to the insurance company.
-
Not to keen on most Bolfs.

Oh yeah it's essential, I just have a funny mental image of a confused guy on the phone wondering wtf a Bolf is

Don't know about the slam panel, as I didn't bother with one, and I have a std front bumper, with the black textured insert.
If you need a reflex silver insert I'm your man.
-
I prefer bolfs to golfs and I prefer goras to boras.
-
Golf front ends on Bora's look horrible.

Here's a link to an album of Bolfs from my cars folder. Let me know if it's on private by accident or anything:

The Bora front end isn't classed as aftermarket as the parts are OE, and yes it's my Bolf.

Did it roll out of the factory like that? Unless you can say yes then in the insurer's eyes it will be classed as a modification.
-
Didn't say it wasn't a mod, just the fact that it's OE parts.
In nearly 20yrs of driving, I have only once told an insurance company of mods, and thats on the current Mk2.
-
but that's because you live life on the
hedge

Apologies, that'll teach me to skim read threads

Most of the Bolfs in that album with aggressive front ends have a Bora R bumper. IIRC, Japan got an R version of the Bora and you can order the bumper from VW. Pricey, but it looks so damn good  One or two of the cars in that folder have modified a normal R32 bumper to fit the Bora front, probably by joining the upper portion of a regular bumper to the lower portion of the R32 bumper. The regular bumper looks great too with a splitter and some lows :afro:
-
Ah i see, thats good news. I didnt realise there was a Bora R.
checked it out. that seems to be the best looking front end and as its an OE part then thats even better. keeping with tradition and all that!
But with getting the R bumper do you think it would need skirts too?
Keep us updated with the progress on the Bolf Lewy. How many cars do you have!?
-
5.
2x mk2's, 2xmk4's, and a Vento TDi.
And a sometimes forgiving wife.
-
Haha Brilliant.
Have you got a link on here to some of your cars?

Jimp; The bumper that i am looking for is the one on picture 19 in that photobucket album.

Looks like a USA bumper :undecided:
-
Is that a bad thing?

I think Wayne is right, it looks like a US bumper that's been modified a bit. The rub strip has been smoothed out and the lower grill openings look a bit different too. Larger maybe? I can't be sure to be honest.

Very subtle, really like this.
-
I really like Gora's
-
nice that red un is :afro: not usually a fan at all of bora front ends but like that!
-
I like the look of a standard front Bolf, maybe slightly lowered with some 18's on
