I've been getting a kind of knocking noise (cant think of a better word) coming from my front wheels/suspension. So far I've changed top mounts, wishbones, balljoints, and drop links. What else can I try, what started as a mild annoyance is starting to drive me mental!
cheers :)

Are the top mounts tight enough
-
do you have coilys or springs?
-
Cv joint/boot
-
Cheers for responces :)
Are the top mounts tight enough
As tight as I can get them
do you have coilys or springs?
springs and shocks, 40mm wietecs
Cv joint/boot
How much work is this? cant find anything in haynes about it but everything else was easy enough
-
Depends if its inner or outer. Inner is much easier, have a look at recent threads regarding hub puller/cv joints etc..........
-
My inner cv boot was gone so instead of faffy about getting a new boot and haviing to take cv joint off drivrshaft and putting it all back together and back on the car I just bought a full driveshaft including fitted cv joint on ebay for £20 lol.
Just had to unbolt from transmision flange and knock other end out of hub and just swap them over.
Cost about the same as a boot kit and I now have spares lol.

before I start f**king about with it all how likely is it that its my problem?
-
You sure its your suspension?
When does the sound happen?
-
Dunno what else it could be, it does it when rocking the front and when driving slowly. could happen when going faster but I cant hear it
-
I have exactly the same sound but I thought my coilover just needed greasing between the coil and helper spring. But if you have it aswell without coilys maybe I'm wrong with mine then.
Hhhhhhhhmmmmmmmm

After doing this I came to the conclusion the gearbox was knocking at low speeds. :undecided:
-
its deffinatly not my gearbox, i did think this but on investigation its deffinatly coming romthe wheels/suspension. it does it if I rock the front even with the engine off, I think next thing to try is a new ARB.
It could even be something to do with the brakes. it does seem to be a bit better after changing the wishbones, balljoints and top mounts so could be a combination of things
-
check your arb mounts. in fact check all the rubber bushings, good chance one is fcuked.
also get a friend to rock the car while you hunt done where the sound is coming from. bonnet up obviously
