Title: Best Mk5?

Looking at a new car for next year and i was after a Mk4 R32 but they dont seem very good on petrol lol. I've looked at a few of the mk5's and i'm not keen on standard but love the edition30 and a couple of GTI's i've seen.

Question is, whats the best Mk5 to go for? I'm looking for something that does decent MPG, quick (or able to improve performance with speding thousands), looks good and has a good interior  :smiley:

There are plenty of MKV Edition 30's out there at the moment. Also there are a few decent Pirelli edition MKV Golfs out there too. I reckon that the Pirelli's will be a better bet if you plan on hanging onto the car for a while as less than 300 came to the UK.

Both the ED30 and Pirelli have the the same engines and turbo's and are capable of around 300bhp with just a remap and an intake. :cool:

I'd go edition 30 or pirelli, i will be looking getting a pirelli or maybe a mk6 gti when my mk4 r32 has sold  :cool:

The ED30s (especially with the half / full leather) trim inside do look very tidy. I'm always envious of the colour coded skirting too (although I'm unsure how practical this is in terms of stonechips etc for a daily driver - I remember on my old celica the oem GT skirting fitted by the previous owner was very prone to stonechips and damage from road debris).

Ed30 is a great motor , but if you can get R32 also afford to run one then thats the car to get imo :cool:

as above, down to your needs.

Personally I chose normal gti for a few reasons. I prefer monza 2's over the edition 30 wheels, like the black side skirts against candy white paintwork, love the bucket seats it come with over the half leathers in edition 30.

Down point is the rear bumper though, needs sorting lol.

Main bonus about edition 30 is the engine imo. But with this it increased my insurance by couple 100 so decided against it.

If you just want something that looks nice and sounds good, r32 best choice but mpg is worse i believe.

If your not bothered about out right power, as gti is still quick enough for normal roads then id just see what money you have and whats on the market when your in position to buy. Its a buyers market at the moment so some bargains to be had
