Howdy chaps,
Thought I would ask you guys as your usually faster than corrado.net... I've searched for an answer but didn't find one.
I'm replacing the rocker cover gasket (late plastic VR6 rocker cover - same as the VR6 Golf ones) and just thought I would check something. On the rocker cover there is a small plastic tab on the airbox side of the head that sticks down over the half-moon rubber bung thing that covers the cam hole.
Does this tab need to push into the rubber half-moon bung (i.e. pushing it down, but this feels too tight), or should it sit next to the half-moon (which doesn't seem to align up very well, pushing the half-moon inwards into the head slightly)?
I would go with the latter, but thought someone on here would know for definite! I can get pics if required.
Lastly, is using instant-gasket definitely advised, as my old Mk2 golf seemed to leak less without sealant?
Cheers all,
Dave

Can you post some pics.
You shouldn't need additional sealant with a gasket.

The rocker cover is on loosely, but you can see the plastic tab over the half-moon. I think it should go on so it sits next to the gasket rathre than pushing into it, but as you tighten, it seems to pull the gasket into the head a little.
Whad'ja think?

What is the plastic tab part of? i would think it should rest on it, not push into the seal.

The tab is attached to the rocker cover, sticking out downwards.

Is the gasket the same for the later type cover. :undecided:

I'm sure the half moon seal lip should be out more?

There are two gasket types, one for late, one for early VR6.
I asked the VW desk for the later, and I've got 021103483D, (the other one is listed as 021103483B), but etka online isn't very clear as to which is the later one and which is earlier one. :undecided:

What year is yours?

What year is yours?
1995, but with the Rado's its easy to tell which is late and early: Early had metal rocker covers, late had plastic.

Looking @ vagcat.
021103483D gasket is for M 014 001>>*
I would guess that is the later type.

I've just checked the packet, and the gasket I was given was 021 103 483 B. :undecided:
Does anyone know how to interpret VAG.com to tell if that is definitely the wrong one?

Bugger, I think I've got the wrong one - this link says it the "D" gasket for plastic covers: http://www.mjmautohaus.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_6_15_42_112_1777&info=OEM_VAG_021103483D_Valve_Cover_Gasket_Late_VR6_OEM&products_id=2007 (http://www.mjmautohaus.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_6_15_42_112_1777&info=OEM_VAG_021103483D_Valve_Cover_Gasket_Late_VR6_OEM&products_id=2007)
Crap.
EDIT: This link disagrees, Arrghh!: http://www.bahnbrenner.com/vw_audi/products/967/VR6_Valve_Cover_Gasket

As per my post D is the later type.
