Title: Noisy PD130... advice pls...

Just purchased a beautiful PD130 with a brand new turbo and fully loaded :smiley: However, it has done 160k and sounds like a frickin tractor!!! :sad:.
Sure it wasnt that bad when I bought it last week but sounds noisy as hell!!

I am used to driving diesels at work but these vehicles a newish with 8-15k on the clock so its understandable that my PD130 will be noisier. But how noisy are they supposed to be?

The oil level is fine and it was apparently serviced back in May. So is it just natural wear n tear on engine components?

If so, wot parts can I change to make it quieter?

Also seem to feel engine vibrations through clutch pedal... is that a mount issue?

This is my first diesel... replacing my valver whist it gets restored :wink:... so any advice would be much appreciated.  :smiley:

Vibrations could be the start of the DMF beginning to give up.

As for the noise, they are naturally noisey in comparison to the newer engines due to different injection systems. Unless there is a specific mechanical noise then I wouldn't worry too much. You could always get it VAGCOM'd just to be sure there are no hidden causes.

Oh and on mine the engine cover was loose on one of the securing lugs, which made it rattle/thud on the engine at idle, might be worth a look and just tightening it back down again.

It's probably worth doing another oil change just to be sure - these engines must be run on the correct PD engine oil otherwise it can cause you some serious problems.

if the dual mass flywheel hasn't been changed it's possible that it's starting to fail but i'd definately check more accessable and considerably cheaper things first.

the PD engines do also heavily rely on their sensors to keep them working correctly - it's possible that one of them has failed and your ecu is trying to advance or retard the timing to compensate for a dodgy signal.
get it onto vag-com / vcds or into a friendly garage with decent diagnostics equipment if you dont have access to it.
