Just about to buy a 02 2.3V5 with a very high spec. i think it is a GTI in effect but just doesnt say it on the car! may sound stupid but seeing as this site is very good with all kinds of discussion am i stillv welcome?
Any advice with the car would be helpful
-
Yes your silly, I would avoid the V5.
Very thirsty and can be troublesome, 1.8t is a much better bet.
Welcome to the site btw
-
What sort of troulbe?
-
 not that f**king bandwagon again.
V5 has good power and good power delivery and torque.
1.8t is a car that will give you problems, Crap power delivery and lowsy peak, lag and boost leaks.
-
The V5 is an underrated engine. Nice and smooth and doesn't run out of puff in the higher rev ranges. It's surprisingly economical on long motorway runs, but forget it around town in rush-hour traffic if you're in any way troubled by visits to the petrol station.
Slightly off-topic, but the V5 is quicker than the 1.8t. At least in Beetle form it is, anyway.
-
Sweet, im not overly bothered by it being a bit juicy as it doesnt make any difference to me with the fuel prices! Also would be used very rarely and if at all it would be motorway journeys. To be honest i am very excited for it. its got low miles and i am getting it for a very good price. Tax is a fair bit but so what. aslong as i enjoy it.
With regards to mods etc.. i wouldnt really want to tamper with the engine to much... for one i dont know alot about them. and secondly im more about enjoy the feel of a dub.
only thing i would do for the first year is possibly lower it and change the alloys... any ideas?
What are peoples views on bronnet bras?
Internally its full cream leather in really good nick. Picking up on the weekend so will post pictures then.
General up keep easy enough?

My V5 Beetle has been fine and only needed a temp sensor changing in three years of ownership, though that is a fiddly bastard of a job to do.
Sounds like a nice car :)

Should have gone for the v6 4motion. I miss mine :( soo smooth to drive, and the grip was awsome.
-
I've driven v5s and love them. I missed out on an awesome one a before I bought this one.

Horrid things.
General up keep easy enough?
Yes but complex engine so needs looking after.
Out of interest, how many miles has it done, how much and what year.

Ugly things tbh.
Not a bad price just make sure the chains are quite with no rattles from cold.
-
ok will check on thursday.
What if they are?

Stay away!
Unless you have access to an engine crane, and know how to change the chains?
-
With bonnet bras I think they only suit euro lookin cars.
-
Been thinking about doing that to it too. but i dont want to get too deep into it, i still like it as standard but with just a hint of euro would be nice.

What's an LCR?
My 1.8 is 245 a year, a V6 is over £400. I wouldn't want to be paying that for just to own one.
-
LCR= leon cupra R

I love sausages more than I love my car. But yes, we all love Golfs.
-
leon cupra r. my v6 golf was 245 a year, its only big 4x4s that are 400.

Was it a 2001 model?

No it's not. You're not taxed on transmission type.
It's any car 2002 onwards that meets the co2 price bracket for £400 upwards.
-
No was a 02 it produces the same as my cura r and my dads s3 there all in the same tax bracket. I can give you the reg if you want to check it?
-
Infact just rememberd I took the lad who bought it of me to tax it and it was 260 so gone up slightly.
-

Yes but V5's are not the most popular choice.
-
V5 is a good car, just make sure it is the 170bhp version, the earlier 150bhp weren't as good.
-
It's defiantly 170bhp version. For the works aside from satnav.
I'll upload pics on the weekend when I pic it up.
Any alloy recomendations? Wanting the euro look but don't want super deep dish full of stainless
Steel. Maybe bbs? Or is that too cliche?
-
Will do, got my wish list made up. pics coming this weekend!
-
For the fuel difference i would have the v6 have driven both and the v6 sounds better and drives better IMO

Either you have the wrong car or you found some awesome sausages?
