yesterday as i was coming in from town my sister was watching xfactor and a young girl called janet devlin was on.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-VIAZdQ0-g
pretty good imo, only 16 and lots of tallent. came up on my youtube accound in the recomended videos and it reminded me of it, ive listened to ellie gouldings version then this and i cant decide which i prefer, i think its actually the xfactor audition
what are your opinions on it, anyone else prefer this to ellie gouldings version?
-
I hate Ellie Goulding tbf! Her singing through the nose annoys the sh!t out of me, and I have to turn the radio over or plug my phone in and listen to something else!

talented and i wish her luck but its all in the hands of the producers now. the yanks are gonna go crazy for her i reckon.
-
i see it and thought she was pretty good for 16,better than most on there imo
-
Already been done with Ellie Goulding.
To me seems pretty much exactly the same, just with a sort of 'The Cranberries' Irish twist, similar breaks in the voice to Dolores O'Riordan (singer of the Cranberries) and similar tone, pitch and vibrato used by Ellie Goulding.
TBH I think she'll get far as the cretins that watch X factor like stuff they've seen before just remarketed.
-
How is she going to sound when she performs a other song? To me it sounds like a Ellie rip off and she kinda spoke parts of the song. Downloading Xfactor now, YES!
-
I like her, got a very nice voice
-
X-Factor is like Scientology
Simon Cowell is like L.Ron Hubbard.
You is like fools.
-
Cant it just die a quite death?

Yeah just like BB did ffs!

She was excellent whats unusual is that when Irish people normally sing there voice sounds english with Janet you can still here the irish in her voice which is nice.

I watched it back after recording it and found it took 18 minutes for the first 'act' and there were only around 8 people shown over the whole time. The rest was adverts and crap. I watched the whole thing in 30 minutes, its an hour and 40 long i think. Thats horrific

I have to agree, this girl does have a talent................ A talent for copying Ellie Golding :undecided:
-
Indeed. I'll be impressed when she does something original.
-
she isnt that great a singer.... will probably do well out of x factor. end of.
-

who copied elton john
most singers dont right there own stuff i.e. riannah love the way you lie was written by a girl called skylar grey and was written for herself to sing then riannah actually did a cover of.
thats just to name one artist off the top of my head.
-
She's a good singer, but nothing different.
keep bleeding sung by leona lewis was written by one republic singer, but he made a mint, and so did the skylar bird if she wrote that song!
-
I think she is good singer imo
She sings these songs well http://www.youtube.com/user/janetdevlin#p/u

A couple of things; Ellie Goulding did not 'copy' Elton John, she covered his song, big difference. But there's little chance this Janet Devlin will have even known the song until Ellie Goulding covered the song and it was used in an advert (I know I didn't, yet I'm blessed to have been brought up in an Elton-free environment :nerd: )
And the fact Janet Devlin sings the same song in such a similar style to Ellie's version, to me, seems like Janet copied Ellie.
Not that there's much wrong with that in the fickle world of pop music, everyone's copying what's 'in' as that's where the gwap is.
If it gets her her 15 minutes of fame, all power to her!
And as for 'most singers dont right [sic] there [sic] own stuff', this is very wrong.
So many artists write their own material, unless they are (again) in the fickle world of pop music, which I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were referring to 'pop' 'singers'.
*Apologies for being pedantic, I'm very opinionated when it comes to music and also in a bit of a dodgy mood at the moment
-
Yeah i admit it is simelar to elllie gouldings version.
and i also admit theres plenty of artist/bands out there who wright there own material
but in my opinion she still has loads of tallent and in the full version of her audition it says she wrights her own songs. Though cant find any so no idea how good they. though shes only young so plebty of time to learn still
-
Cheers Mitching.... That was my point exactly. She sang the song in almost the same way as Ellie Golding did. Now I never said she wasn't talented but we already have Ellie Golding and I thought the whole point of the X-factor was to find the new big thing not cloned copies of artists already out there.
-
To me the point of the X factor is to make Simon Cowell loads of money!
The thing is, the music industry moves on so quickly what was popular a few months ago will now be forgotten, people will see this and move straight onto it instantly forgetting and dismissing most others that were identical that came before it.
One thing I always think of and ask people to tell me is how many 'pop' artists (say in the top 40) that have emerged within the last 2-3 years (and sometimes more) have NOT appeared on TV to get famous?
'Pop stars' have been doing it for years, doing something on TV then moving onto a career in what most people would deem as music, but in the last 10 years, since Simon Fuller's "pop idol", the majority of emerging 'pop stars' have come from and been made famous by being on TV.
-
And seems that the ones that do make it from having good music and being talented dont get number ones or noticed.
