Title: Front Headlights - Cleaning Inside Lens Housing??
Post by: VWjon on 22 August 2011, 13:33
Hello All,

So after my slight bumper crack and light scuff, the insurance replaced both parts. Now I noticed a problem on the night with the lights on.

The new light looks very clear  but the old one on looks misty , on close inspect just needs a good cleaning from the inside of the light?

Is this possible? or could I claim from a 3rd party warranty company who I have a 3 year extended warranty with.

If they dont cover, its a new light off eBay or somewhere isnt it?

I'm not 100% but I'm pretty certain the housing of the light cluster is all enclosed. This was the case on the MK3 and 4 so cant see why it would be any different on the 5. Mine has got a bit of mist in there and left some stains but its hardly noticeable, is yours really that bad?

It was possible to take apart the older ones to do what was called a joey mod which was to paint the inside black like the anni lights but it was far from simple and involved putting them in the oven to melt the glue. Wouldn't bother.
