Saw a mk6 cabriolet advert today. Looks nice. Shame it's about to become colder.

It just looks dumpy and too short to me - just like the A3 which it effectively is. For mid £20k (which a new one will inevitably cost) I'd much rather be looking at used "grown up" cabs such as A5s, 3 series etc.

I don't think many men will be up for it, but I think it will appeal to most women especially those Thelma/Louise types.

As someone else said it looks a bit dumpy, like a Golf gone wrong

I shan't be getting one.

I like it, hope they do a GTI version.

According to VW there will be a version with the GTI engine but not kitted as such. There maybe an R version with R looks if demand is there.

Horrible.  Why would you consider such a thing?

with the roof down it looks nice and clean, with the roof up it doesn't quite look right. Maybe the roof is too high? Nice colour that red.

Why would you consider such a thing? Well, normal people with taste in cars wouldn't.

Unfortunately, I'm married to someone with no taste in cars who likes it. As has been said, it's a woman's/gay's car which is bad news for me if she gets one cos I'll have to drive it at some point. Maybe I'll have to get a brown paper bag with eye holes in!!!!!

@andykram: Relax. It might help you to get in touch with your feminine side.

I like it.

Talking about convertibles.

Just done a 150 mile trip, my wife was following in her 1.4 TSi (160 bhp) EOS, roof up.

GTI mpg 45. EOS 39. Same journey, same traffic, temp etc. Both cars fairly full with passengers/luggage, both running Tesco 99.

@Jimble: Are you sure with a gray car? If you had pink pounds, your rear would have LEDs by now.

I've just shown her those pictures. She still likes it so it looks like I'm going to have to get in touch with my feminine side unless I can come up with something better.

The A3's fixed rear roll-over hoops spoil it. The Golf is much cleaner with the roof down.

Still think it's like a proper sized convertible that's been shunted up the rear.

Runs away and waits for the innuendos to roll in!!!

Well, I saw this car for the first time in the flesh today sat outside the VW stealer in Huddersfield. A silver GT model and yes, it still looks like a giant shoe.
Unfortunately, the wife still says she likes it!!!!
So in we bob for a brochure and price list and it turns out a 1.6 diesel (all the might of 105hp!!!) SE with the spec she wants (Metallic, heated seats, folding mirrors and foglights - I can't believe I have to pay extra for foglights) comes to a not insubstantial £24 455. Even if I got a 6% discount I'm still looking at £23000.
This is a lot of money for a small, slow shoe!!!!
However, she has finally admitted the only car with a roof she'd have is a Scirocco so there's hope yet.
