Post by: vwburty on 20 August 2011, 20:36
ih there, i have golf gti mk3 8v and having trouble with my temperature, car idles great , maybe alittle un powered ( feels like its trying to go but just cant get the last bit of power ) but in traffic the temperature sits half way but driving out of town it will drop down to 70 or just under and on the mfa the oil temp drops down to 66-70 while moving, the thermostat has been changed yesterday but didnt sort it. Anyone got some ideas?
thank you

If you've just changed the stat, make sure its bled properly. Massage the pipes til hot and hard.  with the expansion tank cap off.
Rev at 3000 rpm for 30 seconds, then let off and you should see it starting to bubble up. Do it a few times and this should clear it hopefully.

Not sure if it's the same, but my Ibiza had similar issues. The stat housing had fractured, when the stat was trying to operate, instead of fully opening or closing it would just bend the damaged stat housing.

Got a replacement for pittance too.
