Brought series 1 of HBO's The Wire a few months back.
Not watched any of it yet.... so wondering if its any good?

Thanks guys.... I absolutaly loved the Soprano's and have been looking for a decent series to replace it.

The shield is better IMO , but the wire is good very long and some of them are boring :cool:

wire is good... but not as good as sopranos. entourage is also very good... but like the wire its totally different from sopranos.
entourage is probably the best for laughs on a episode by episode (although it may also make you want to be reborn and take a different path in life :evil:)

Sounds a bit like Sopranos's in the sense you could watch an episode and not really much happens.....but it reels you in builds up and then everyones getting whacked in the next episode. Loved it. Wish they would make some more.

haha! Looks pretty violent tbh! there is a mix of all types of gangs italian mafia, block boys, skin heads, muslims etc etc

IMHO I still think the West Wing seasons 1-4 is the best television I have ever seen.

The Wire is excellent if you prefer you're cop/crime drama with depth and real social awareness rather than the normal stereotypical cop show sh!te. Omar White is the greatest character I've ever seen on TV. All 5 seasons are top notch but season 4 is the one that really hits home.
I gave it a 10/10 on IMDB.
It is better than the Sopranos , which although still excellent didn't seem to have the same grey area personalities. I always found Tony just a bit to one dimensional for instance. I still gave it a 9 on IMDB tho'
Deadwood is another brilliant HBO show. anything where Lovejoy says fcuk and cnut 50 times and episode has got to be tho' hasn't it?
Oz starts of a bit cheesy and stereotypical but does get better and better.
Just started watching Treme which is by the same bloke who did The Wire. It's a bit of a slow burner but I'm just getting into it on episode 3 now they've introduced the characters.
Basically HBO tend to get it right.

The Wire for me was one of the best series I've watched, just wish we could have that kind of hard hitting tv here too!! Omar is indeed a class character, and the likes of felicity "snoop" pearson actually coming from the baltimore streets really adds something. Yo Bubs...... :wink:
