well insurance renewal came through and i currently pay £172mth fully comp for me and wife all mods declared and my 9points declared the renewal was £272 for 9mth   theres no way on earth i can pay that i did a quick shop around and cant really find anything decent so what do a do no way a could sell it a do have a garage at my new house so was thinking she could go in there till the market changes
WHAT WOULD YOU DO ??
-
That sucks mate
When i was doing mine i changed things like, where the car was parked as for some reason having a car on the street compared to in the drive brings down the costs as people stealing wont know what house it belongs to to get to the keys, sounds stupid but worked on mine got it down another £100. Erm not sure what else could do mate? Guessing you have tried all the obvious insurers? admiral etc?
p.s. im sure there would be a few people interested in your car  (which isnt an option obviously )

Have you tried the specialist brokers.

Have you tried the specialist brokers.
HIC can be competitive, but it only seems to be if your over 25.

And I'm sure all price comparison sites add commission
I always find the best quote on there then ring the company directly! But then again those sites always quote over 2K for me and can't see why!
-
e car are sh!te! was with them for a while, but as its web based, the customer services are proper sh!te! There is a claims line, but if you ring them about anything else, they wont deal with it and tell you to email them. Takes weeks and tons of emails to get a response. Phoning them is £1 a minute as well!! How much is your car worth?? Can you risk TPFT as that will bring it right down too obviously. Adrian flux/HIC (same company pretty much) are good, I've just renewed with them. They actually have outsource as well (probs take commission on it). My insurance is actually through LV, but Adrian Flux actually deal with my policy.

that was best 1
keep searching and no joy yet dont want it to be game over on my golf
-
Daz mate that's terrible
What do you do for a living?
Age?
Points?
Or is itnthebmods that are killing you?
-
Pm on your way later daz, il give you the guys number I use, I'm 20 with 0 ncb and I paid £1360 mods declared
-
Yeah I wouldnt use comparison sites, as they only really deal with standard insurers. Your far better off going with a specialist insurer with your mods etc.
-
Fook thats alot of money, I've only recently got my licence back after a ban and have no ncb but I pay £384 a year!!!
-
Brentacre?
I second this, im 23 and will have 3yrs ncb at the end of the month. Direct line renewal is £1800 (£150/month) and insurance is currently at £192/month although ive already paid my last installment.
Brentacre will insure me for £1089 which is over £700 cheaper with quite a few mods to engine and exterior
I have a bmw E36 328.. and incomparison i was gettin quotes of £6000+ from tesco etc
EDIT: also too add my excess will drop from £750 down to £150 with bretacre
-
had a call from adrian flux qouted £202mth with £250 deposit fully comp for us both all mods and my points declared
but they phoned why i was out watching liverpool game and i didnt have my card with me to pay so no doubt that will change the qoute on monday when i fone back

.....and for being very old.
-
still no joy runs out on friday... and dont ya have to sorn if theres no insurance... worse comes to worse ive cleared my garage out so she,ll have a home but no driver
-
£202 per month!
I pay that a year!
-
ye make sure you SORN it mate (its piss easy) Otherwise you could be hit with another fine and tbh its not worth it. Just make sure if you do put her in the garage just to turn her on every other day or so keep the battery ticking over.
-
cheers mate will do
been speaking 2 the missis bout selling up but i couldnt live with myself if i did so dont know what do :undecided:
-
when do your points come off mate? Just saying if it isnt long then you could look after amybe a couple of points have run out then the insurance would come down?
But if you sell up youll then have to fork out to get another car? May end up cheaper just insuring it rather then trying to sell then look for another car (that your not going to be happy with)
Its sucks, main thing is dont rush into anything that you may regret.
Sorry not being much help just not sure what to say :undecided:

I'm going from the old Rado to a newer, more powerful motor and it's £200 less per year
Helps being old, only having 3 points (nearly 5 years ago) and 3million years no claims bonus though.
Daz, hide it, bide your time and drive safe, lose the points and then......good times
-
No one has pointed out the other option.
If it's so expensive to insure with all your mods..... try for a quote with no mods, completely standard car. Then if that is affordable, take your mods off the car, run it as standard for a year until you get rid of your points or premiums reduce. Then put them back on.
Better than selling the car or putting it in the garage and not driving it.
You could also try a couple of other things when doing quotes. See if it's cheaper with a parent on your insurance, that way you (the "high risk" driver) won't be driving it as often. (This used to help with my premiums when I was about 20)
Try changing the place you keep the car. IE, some policies will allow you to have the car registered at another address (eg a parents house with better/safer postcode) but still keep it overnight at your own house.
If its been a couple of years since you got the points on your licence, definately give the DVLA a call to check whether any have come off.
I called them 6 months ago and found that my 3 points had already come off and would not appear on my licence when I got a new one sent to me (due to changing address).
Insurance is going up, people are having lots of accidents (lots of bad weather in the winter/etc) and as more people take the risk of driving without insurance, any accidents they have push up premiums for those who do pay their insurance.
My insurance went up this year, even though nothing had changed in my circumstance, except no longer having points on my licence. Go figure.
Its a fact of life than sometimes stuff gets unaffordable. When I moved to London 7 years ago, I had to give up my GTI because I couldn't afford to keep running it. I sold it, bought a dirty cheap Polo and ran that until I could afford something better.
Hope you can avoid selling. As I said, try looking at insuring a standard car without mods, at least you'll be able to keep driving your car (albeit without mods).
-
good news is i wont be selling my golf shes tucked away in my garage keeping warm through winter which will give me chance to get few bits and bobs done ready for when shes back out
bad news is.........ive joined the darkside, and bought a ford focus 1.6   well its for the missis mainly but for us both the insurance is £60 a month am on nights at the min but pick it up thursday, its a T reg black focus its in pretty good condition , and 12mths m.o.t so its the new cheap winter car  and its only 5miles down the rd so no messing picking it up
pics to follow
-
With the drop in your insurance that must just about work out at a free car for the year!
Nice one!
Having jsut read throught this thread its good to see youve got a decent result.
-
cheers mate yeah its a nice drop it wasnt worth paying £202 a month on my golf through winter when it would hardly get used and hopefully by spring time next year insurance should drop a bit on golf
-
only thing that comes down these days mate is the rain...
-
You still need to keep the golf insured for theft, no?
