Their right, there is no point as you won't get any gains! And if you do its a lot of money to gain absolutely minimal!

Click on the search at the top and have a look at various threads as it does get asked a lot!

If you want more power swap the engine

What he said ^^

Nothing you do, exhausts, filters ect. will make any noticable differance to the power of the stupid 8v.

Change the engine or buy a different Mk3.

See my bodywork is pretty mint apart from a few little bits around one window and the tailgate, hence I decided to change the lump! Plus the car was given to me and I know the complete history of the motor! Its a tough choice to make what to do but have a read up on various peoples projects etc

thats crazy do u afta change all the gear box and fuel tank and brakes etc etc
Title: Re: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cheers :P
Post by: dansmk3 on 18 August 2011, 20:12
i got the box with the engine, loom, ecu etc. as its an early spec vr engine (pre '96 i believe) it dont have an immobiliser on the ecu which helps, so i just use my original key.

as for the rest of the vehicle you only need to change the drivers rear engine mount, driveshafts, brakes, fuel system, tank etc are all the same

Title: Re: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cheers :P
Post by: dansmk3 on 18 August 2011, 20:38
all the engine and everything came to £200 and a full stainless 6branch manifold, stainless downpipe, stainless decat and stainless silencers all cost a £100, new engine mount £40 that are the main things.

so in theory £340 aint bad is it? lol. ok a lot of my time to do it but its all part of the fun and games aint it? all for the love

what air filter did you get? as cone filters dont do nothing on the 8v, best to get a panel filter if anything or just keep it standard
Title: Re: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cheers :P
Post by: B1rd1e9 on 18 August 2011, 20:59
i got a cone 1 gives it a nice beefy sound and u dont no wot 2 bleave coz a few ppl have sed go wiv that coz u get betta air in take and ppl have also sed get it re mapped but then otha ppl say different surely gettin it re mapped wil help it
Title: Re: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cheers :P
Post by: dansmk3 on 18 August 2011, 21:03
not on the 8v it wont. and i would dash the cone filter, just get a nice panel filter. if you want to go down the route have a look at modding the air box (putting holes in it).

you will benefit more than the cone but it wont be amazing

if you love the sound, buy yourself a vr lump and do the conversion. the vr sound is immense

Got to admit it's getting a bit tedious!

Basically the 8v is not a tunable engine at all, a remap is pointless and a cone filter may sound better but will do absolutely nothing for performance. If you want to squeeze a couple of extra ponies out of it then give it a really good service, stick on a stainless steel exhaust, put a panel filter in with a cold air feed and you may see an increase in power.

Alternatively you could change the camshaft and run more aggressive cams, Khare saw about 138bhp with a Kent Camshaft. A remap would also be beneficial if you do this.
