I spent an entire weekend in the (national?) science museum (the one around the corner from natual history museum) but I'm a massive nerd :lipsrsealed: Good area for car spotting too, all sorts of exotic metal passes by. The natual history museum is also worht a poke around

Markets like Borough.
Boat on the Thames to see the sights!
BTW Thorpe Park and Chessington are not exactly London! They are just inside the M25.

Tube to Embankment, out the station, cross the road, get on River boat, guided tour down to Greenwich, get off mooch around the town center, wander up to the Royal Observatory, boat back to Embankment, head to Leicester Square, Covent garden, and So Ho etc, plenty of great bars in this area, then a short wander up to China Town to fill your face...

My mrs lives in london and on a lazy sunday we go into Islington to a little breakfast cafe called sausage and mash then jump on the tube to central i.e oxford circus then walk down Regent street, cutting behind the theatre and in to carnaby street, have a look about the shops there and prehaps grab a little snack. Then we walk east following oxford street but keep a few streets behind it to the south otherwise you will want to start hitting people and suddenly you realise you are in covent garden. Doss about there for a bit then walk directly south to the river, stay north though and have a stroll along, heading west and then pop into the powerstation and look at some wank modern art. From here you can jump on the jube again and head to an area for tea. Simples

Outside the South Bank Design Museum under the bridge there is an amazing second hand book market every Sunday.
If you're into that...
-
go looting thats seems 2 b the in thing in london at the mo

Lastminute.com  I would have said write to your MP asking for a private tour of Big Ben (this is the only way you can do it afaik) and yes you actually get to stand next to the Big Ben when the hammers whack him  not to worry they give you ear plugs. Probably too late now though.
