Title: VW Gear Oil
Post by: WadGTI on 18 August 2011, 12:03
Hi Fokls,

As above, anyone tried this stuff in their trannys?

Picked up 2L of the Gear Oil and 3L of G12++ Coolant for the gold for £30 - good price.

The guy at part says the gear oil does most gearboxes. It doesnt have any numbers printed on the bottle i.e. 75/90w.

Thanks

I have used the VW gearbox oil on my 8v - stinks, but gearbox less whiney afterwards.  Easy job, but suggest some gloves and towels, and a funnel to hand.

Nice one...I will keep that in mind.

VW Parts are good on the their liquid prices IMO. Going to pick some quantum oil next week for it.

Cheers

Going to flush the water system tomorrow. However, i put radweld in the coolant about 3 months ago (just under 3/4 bottle) as it had a tiny leak. My question is, would a flush product possibly open the leak back up.

I was thinking about taking the water hoses off one by one and giving a good scrub inside with a toothbrush. Any thoughts?...really cant be assed changing the raditor.

Thanks

just change the radiator, it's the best way to make sure that the leak won't return, i used radweld on my old car, it lasted a year and then started leaking again (mind you i did hammer that car)
