As title, I've currently got 4gb of corsair XMS3 1600mhz ram in there, but as ram is so cheap I'm tempted to buy another 4gb and have a total of 8gb. However is that overkill or will I notice a big difference in performance?

Best thing to do is use the performance monitoring tool while doing what would normally put the most pressure on your machine and see if you're even using the 4GB.
Some help for the PM on Win7:

Cheers Jay. Just looked on performance monitor and says I've got 2.5gb free, so will keep a note of what is used as I go along and decide from there

I've been running Win7 64-bit for a year now on 4GB ram, only issues I've had is Firefox using a lot of it on occasions, otherwise it runs pretty nice, I'd like to upgrade to 8GB soon though

I use chrome so no memory hogging there I don't think :undecided:

It's not just the browsers fault, go to a youtube or a radio station site and stream music... any browser will consume loads of memory after a few minutes, flash is a hog!
-
Ive got 8GB DDR3 XMS3  Worth Having, means you will never have to upgrade...well not for a while anyway!
-
depends what you do?
I've got 12GB of triple channel, if I'm gaming then RAM usage will stick around 4-5; if I'm editing photos or movies then it can quickly jump upto 10-11.
For gaming 4 is fine, but not that future proof, as a work station you'd really want 8, you'd probably find that adding an SSD would give you more of a noticeable increase than adding more RAM

Hmmm may invest in 4 more gb of ram then, future proof
