Radiator fan.
My 16V has been running perfectly for 6months, then suddenly in heavy traffic the red temp light came on, looked at the bonnet and saw water vapour gently rising. OH I said!! :'(
The fan didn?t cut in, so I?m guessing this is my problem, is there a way to isolate the fan and test it?

Unplug the switch on the radiator, stick a metal wire across the 2 points and the fan should come on. I thinks that right, i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong ;D

When I discovered my fan wasnt working i disconnected the fan, let the car overheat sat on my drive then got out the volt meter and tested for power between the connections so that i could tell if it was the fan or the thermostat!

Could be worth a try as long as you don't let the engine get too hot! :P

Get a paper clip and open it out so it forms a U shape, pull the connector off the thermoswitch and connect the paper clip to two of the terminals and see if the fan spins. You will probably have 3 connectors and this will be for the twin speed fans, just use the same power and connect the other pin to see if the fan spins faster.
I would also run a feed direct from the battery to test the fan works ok, this should determine what the problem is.
