It even took the thiefs picture and emailed it to the tracker company then they forwarded it on to the victim

I have Mac Keeper which has built in security which takes a picture & sends the ip address to the company for tracking, might have a look at that program as well though

Just sorted it out for myself. Got both my laptops and my HTC. The Android app is ace, just send a text to your phone sim number and it tracks. It also auto tracks if the sim is changed and it cant be uninstalled unless you log in and install. The PC version is very well hidden too, just make sure you delete the download file or a simple search brings it up and the culprit can then conclude that it is installed.
It also has some other usefull things such as remote locking and securing. You remember the last time you left your laptop on and watched your facebook get raped from your smartphone? One simple click and whoever it is is locked out of the computer Via the Prey password. There is also an alarm feature too. So instead of receiving reports that the thief is enjoying your music or watching films, why not set an alarm to go off at the click of a button, send him/her a message aka 'Due to me been one clever ass fatherless son this phone has been tracked. I have an image of your face, your current location (which will be updated every 30 second). Life is about to get very messy for you.' (which is what I have on my android)
EDIT on the EDIT:
Just discovered that when messaging your stolen laptop/tablet/pc you can change the wallpaper lol.

Good software but easily bypassed, still its free and offers more chance of getting your stolen device back

Of course it is, but I doubt your average intruder has the brainpower to do it.
