Title: Jack's wagon.
Post by: Jack3559 on 15 August 2011, 16:02
After much proctrastination I've bitten the bullet and decided to attempt a Dub rides thread.

A year ago I came into posession of my second mk3 estate following the death of my mystic blue wagon.

I was originally going to get a 2.0 8V satin silver one, but Chuff managed to find me a decent TDi with a measly 105000 miles on the clock.

I was originally a bit disheartened by the beige interior but now I've made the most of it and I wouldn't have anything else.

I've got some beige tweed/tartan for the headlining and I've got a little picnic basket sub install in the back which I've yet to take pictures of.

Then came a little bit of a bodge in that my bonnet cable snapped so I had to rig this up so I could get it to open and close and I've still not sorted that.  :undecided:

I then got to work ruining it by putting some ridiculous wheels on it and lowering as much as practically possible.

This is the set of wheels that I had the longest.

It also briefly ran on a set of teledials and a set of G60's.

I've not got some 16" Megane steels in 4x100 that are waiting for tyres.

Then came a few subtle engine tweaks and a new exhaust as well as sorting some of the rusty patches temporarily.

And it comes to how it sits now.

I've done countless fiddly bits that I've forgotten about as well so you'll have to forgive me but here are the most recent pics:

Plans for the future include:

Get tyres sorted and wheels fitted.
Roll arches.
Go lower.
Spacers and a tiny touch of camber.
Satin paint job.

I'd also like to swap out all the bushes for polybushes and fit both a front and rear strut brace in the most OAP way possible.

Not the most exciting of dub rides threads but... you asked for it!

Thanks for reading.

I'm thinking dark blue at the moment.

Although I have been contemplating a chocolate colour.

I also forgot to mention that I want to joey and tint the lights at some point too.

Im actually trying to find a decent one at the moment but i reckon i could be a little while as im being quite specific with the spec. I want storm grey GL TDI (later the better), ive seen some on S & T plates so that's preferably what im going to hunt down.
Once ive finally got what i want il be transplanting as much as physically possible over from my current storm grey 5dr 16v.

Nice! Looking forward to seeing this progress....engine conversion in the future??

I hear PD150 Lumps remap well :lipsrsealed:

Post by: Jack3559 on 15 August 2011, 22:06
Thanks for the comments guys.

Engine conversion won't be happening to this one I'm afraid.

This one is my mile muncher and I wanna keep it as MPG happy as possible.

It's quite perky now I've had it chipped and changed the injectors and it didn't hurt the economy either.

If it all goes bang then maybe I'd consider a newer lump.  :lipsrsealed:

Exactly the route I'd like to take if I manage to pick up a TDI wagon in the future.

looks pretty goood mate

not a fan of roof racks (bet your MPG sucks with that house on your roof) and bra's but other than that its a good effort so far

Post by: Jack3559 on 16 August 2011, 13:24
Cheers buddy.

Roof box does kill it, it takes it down to about 40mpg.

That's the way it looks when it's loaded for bear on it's way to center parcs with the missus and the dog, I don't usually keep the box on.

It looks better in these pics than it does in real life sadly.

Yeah, I'm sure a lot of it's in the wrong order, but nothing's really changed much since about November last year.

Hopefully there will be some more chronologically accurate updates as they occur soon.

Plus, I love my morse beige cloth now.

I've decided to go OAP+ on the interior.

Tartan cloth, wooden beads, sunvisor and seatback pouches?

That's the one!

I've got the tartan in beige to do the headlining with.

Not sure on the wooden beads... although it could work.

I've got some boiled sweets too.

I'm fed up of looking at the shocking scuffs and gouges all over the bumpers now.

I parked my car between two concrete planters and someone reversed out on full lock without looking and scratched it all up.

So... I'm after a set of textured bumpers.

I'm going to back to black them right up and then give it another whack with the lowering stick, some gold fleur de lis vinyls to cover up the rust and the raised lacquer patches ( ) and then when the garage is clear it will be going satin white.

If you spot any bumpers, let me know.
Title: Re: Jack's wagon.
Post by: Wayne on 06 October 2011, 00:08
Good luck with the bumpers, front is easy but did they make them on estates  :undecided:

Took me ages to find a set for mine when I was looking.

They did... they're harder to come across though.

Only on the CL models pre '96.

This turned up today. :lipsrsealed:

It's an AUQ on 32,000 miles.

This is going into the Mk4...

But the AGU from the Mk4 is going to be rebuilt and used in either the wagon or the polo coupe.

What are your thoughts?

If the wagon gets the 20VT, the polo will get the tuned diesel engine...

This is what I thought...

But then...

Makes sense... But the Mk4 is pretty sensible on fuel as well.

The modified TDi is already pretty quick, not 196 HP quick (which is what the AGU is running at the moment) but there's a load of torque.

I just can't decide.  :undecided:

Especially since:

But as i don't think we do sensible, DO IT :D wouldn't be that much work, i'm swapping everything over as piece of mind for mine.. ;)

Not the point I was trying to get across, look at what needs swapping / changing over = major work.

To me a TDI estate is a good practical and cheap to run daily.

I know what you're saying, I'm speaking in jest, however, to Jack it is also a good practical run around, perhaps he's bored of that.  To him an estate could soon be a practical sleeper. and save the MPG woes for another car.

If you have access to a lift the diesel -> petrol change isn't that bad. A mate of mine has done it three times on his mk2 daily  Started like as a 1.6 driver, swapped to 1.9 td, then to a 2.0 8v, back to the 1.9 td for work, back to 2.0 8v for summer and it's been a 1.9 td for a while now.
