Title: No sidelights at front only with ignition off
Post by: DOA on 15 August 2011, 15:45
Hi there
Just been for an MOT with my 1988 8V Gti and appart from a few silly things like a number plate light that had a dodgy connetion (a tap fixed it) and a brand new wiper blade that had decided to fall appart (Wilco's finest lol, should know better), its also failed on the sidelight operation with the ignition switched off. The problem is isolated to the front sidelights which operate normally at all other times except when the ignition is off (the rears work fine). Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this problem as I have pulled all of the connectors off and given them a good clean etc but it doesnt sound like a connector problem to me since they work at all other times. The dim/dip resistor is still in place but removing that makes no difference to the problem.

Cheers

Sawp out the stalk and the headlight for known good units - could be something in either of those causing issues - remember leaving the indicator on leaves 'parking lights' on.

Failing that it'll be an earth.  It's generally an earth problem on a Golf2.

:embarassed: Actually more like a common sense failure on my part, forgot the sidelights are on different bulbs for these situations and didnt check they were ok and had 12v to them, which they are not and do lol  . This may yet end up being my cheapest MOT ever lol.
