In addition to the planned Blue Motion rear spoiler and side skirts on my GT TDI, I am now considering LED rears after seeing them on a Tornado GTD yesterday.
I can understand people upgrading early GTI/D's to have them, but could fitting them to a GT look like I'm trying to make it look like something it isn't?

Isn't that what you are trying to do?
-
The new cabriolet version of the golf has very similar lights so my responce would be do it if you want too if your software is capable of it that is.

I didn't want it to appear to be trying to look like a GTI/D, hense the Blue Motion bits, but was unsure whether the rear lights might be a step too far.
-
Well it could be said if your fitting blue motion bits you want it too look like a golf R
If you like it do it.

They are a factory option on the Bluemotion and GT in Germany, so won't look out of place IMO.

Then again spending £450 on a set of tail lights when the old ones work just fine. Madness. But, they do look good, but you never get to see them.
-
Or at current retail price £506 + ~£35 for adaptors  for something you will never see yourself.

Never get to see them? I can see them burning a hole in the eye balls of the guys sat behind me when I ride the brake pedal at the lights
Best money I've spent on the car.

You can't see your alloys either but that does not mean they should not look as pretty as possible.
Change your tail lights, Snoops. They do make the car look less ordinary. The longer you wait, the more expensive they become. Last year they cost me £421.50 including adaptors.
I agree with Jim. I also think it's the best money I spent on my car .

Adi is a local guy to me, he did Neil's GTI aswell, top bloke. From all the photos I've seen, really knows what he's doing.
-
If you want them get them, IMHO it makes the rear a little less "tourag"

Apart from all restyled VWs have similar LED or LED style lights now too
-
If you do decide to change to the LED R rear lights i found this video very helpful as a step by step install guide (excluding coding)

I've decided against doing this job now. In fact, i don't suppose I will do the skirts and spoiler either. It's my wifes car, and money wasted on modding it could be money spent on getting me a new car sooner.
-
Makes sense i guess.

A Discovery to replace my V6 TDI Passat.

That is a good point mind £500 added to the pot for the next car, I dont know what the spoiler and side skirts cost but after spraying lets round it up to a £1000 in the pot.

At a guess it would be £1500 to do the lights, spoiler and skirts, add another grand for the xenons that I would also like, and that's £2500 that I would never see again.
If I carry on saving money at this rate, the Discovery is getting even closer.
-
are you looking to buy a discovery ? im selling my 55 plate range rover
-
Thanks for the offer, but I'm after something a little newer.
-
no bother matey but mine is much cheapness and its a facelift
