Title: A 'Buzzy' Sunday Afternoon..
Post by: Obvious on 14 August 2011, 20:44
Spent flying from flower to flower.. Took about 30 attempts to try get this bee, because he just kept on flying away from flower to flower, everytime I got in and focused, off he would go. Was fun trying mind

colours are fantastic in this, however I find that the bee is in the wrong place composition wise, when I look at the image the bee is the second thing I see as the direct on part of the thistle dominates the image (due to the placement and the repeated pattern (interest)).

Yes, it was kind of one of those grab it while you can shots. Not much time to think about composition. I pretty much just had to focus quick when the bee landed and grab a shot. Took many attempts mind, because every time I got in, and focused, ready to rake the shot off he would fly.. typical huh. Here is another shot, probably the only 2 that actually turned out alright.

That's the best of the two!

Some cropping and removing the branch along the bottom and itd be really good.

Yes totally agree with you there, really must be a bit creative with the cropping :)

if you want full control when shooting bees, catch one put it in the freezer for a bit and it wont fly off until it thaws out (no harm done)

buzzy things are always tricky... fast shutter speed and a good telephoto with plenty of light about always helps
