i hate giving up on things tho  so i attacked it again today i put the column up side down on a block of wood so i wouldent damage the end the steering wheel goes on and tap'd the end off with a bolster and hammer it was on solid and took some doing !   it all came off then put the new lock on  and cleaned the end up with the linisher where id been hitting it with the bolster ! its all good !! :smug:
