Title: mk2 8v to 16 conversion
Post by: GUDGE on 16 September 2003, 11:17
Can someone tell me what parts are required to convert a 1992 mk2 8v digifant (engine PB) to a 16v version.
ie engine type revision, gearbox version etc?
Does it require may major parts to be replaced and if so what?  ???

I hate to be curt, but wouldn't it be cheaper and alot less hassle to sell the 8v as a complete car and buy a 16v.

Everything is different on the 16v. You name it VW changed it.

From what I can gather on the list, most people rip out the 8v block and replace it completely.

I would agree with you tinman. Unfortunately there are major differences between the two breeds. From the totally different fuel system right down to the fine details such as the oil pump on the 16v (actually borrowed from the VW diesel engine). If the car is a particularly good un Gudge and you don't want to part with it the easier option is probably to go for a larger capacity tuned 8v lump that can still use the digifant system.

It would sure be easier just to go and buy a 16valve ;)
