I haven't got one in my '96 gti, i want one but i cant see where it would mount.
Does anyone have one they want to sell me and advise where it fits and possibly why i haven't got one? Been in a '97 gti and it had one??
-
No-one will have one, because VW, in their retarded wisdom, thought to put one on the accelerator side instead of clutch side. Completely ignoring the obvious fact that your foot will need to be in contact with the accelerator pedal most of the time..
This also means there is very little room on the clutch side to fit an aftermarket contraption!
-
Thats strange as i've definitely driven a '97 gti with a foot rest although it was a bit tight, i didn't pay much attention but it didnt look like it was aftermarket?

There is a VW clutch footrest. I shall dig out a pic. There are a bit rare, but were still available through VW a bit back.
TADA!

i always thought this too, why put one on the accelerator side, it never made sense to me.

Your not having mine, a must have in a Mk3
Little bit that covers the screw has popped out of mine, its under the seat somewhere
-
Its on my wish list!
-
I got one in my '98 MK3, its a bloody godsend on a long journey.
I was told it was a standard option in VR6's.

my mate had one in his old 97 colour concept 8v GTI
-
It might be possible to get one new still from VW 1H2 864 419 B41
-
Apparently they are still available.
-
Any idea of the price?
I'm working long hours at the moment and dont get the oppertunity to ring VW
-
Dont see what all the fuss is about........... Just put your foot on the floor for long journeys, and keep your heel on the floor with your foot resting on the clutch around town. Unless your foot weighs 2 stone you wont be engaging the clutch anyway. :undecided:
-
i know this is an old thread. But i just got 1 from mad4vw's and i got my carpet out but cant seem to see the bottom thread for the plastic nut to go on. Any help?
-
I got o e I'm my 16v!!
-
its good to have a footrest as your left foot can go to sleep (lol) it has happened to me a few times. Im going to have a good look again 2moz to see if i can see that thread.
-
I've got one in my gti 8v  but it also has leather, ac, etc
-
you fit it in yourself or was it alredy there from before? Think if you have a footrest then they put a spare thread in.
-
Foot rest was awesome tonight on the way back from Brighton
-
hahahah
got to fit mine in

I got one too, just need to fit it
-
what could i use to make it fit if there isnt a screw thread for the bottom part of the footrest? Hard as nails? Lol
-
I haven't fit mine yet but I think the screw your looking for is under the carpet. I was going to cut the carpet or peel it back to check
-
defo not there as my carpet was out just took the sound proofing material out and theres a circle there but not screw thread.
-
Can you post up a picture? I wonder if the screw is welded or stuck with glue? Araldite or something like might do it. It's probable spot welded from the factory
-
this is the picture i took:
ignore the top circle.

in this picture you can see the circle. (think its a factory weld:

Looks like those circles are factory cutouts in the sound deadening for the screws.
So I guess factory welded screws
-
looks like i gota get a selftapping screw or a bolt welded there with a nut to screw in.
-
will chemical metal do?
-
ok well i got some chemical metal (what a fail x2) at the end gave up and secured it with the top plastic nut and its held well but will find out soon if i need to tap a screw in or not. It feels stiff enough  will upload pics later.

Just received one of these in the post, without having a proper look and pulling up the carpet when it's not pissing hard with rain I'm a bit baffled at its exact position. How far back should it sit?
-
Would you like a pic?
