As i been told its hard to drop a turbo onto my 1.4 - whats the fastest golf mk3 engine - if considering dropping it into mine..
-
Vr6. Give it up mate. Sell your car and buy another car and stop asking stupid questions.

Assuming this is all going to be declared yes?
-
are you trying to suggest that young people dont tell the whole truth all the time ? ? ?

For the amount of effort it takes, plus the extra insurance cost, it would be cheaper all round if you sell the 1.4 and just buy a GTI 16v, or an 8v GTI if you're young and not used to anything THAT fast.

And you can pootle around getting in the way of faster golf owners like us old folk...

To be fair, the 8v GTI is a Bugatti Veyron compared to the 1.4.

To be honest i only got the golf because a family member selling it cheap - im currently driving a vxr astra which im sure is fast enough so the speed isnt a worrie 4 me - i had a nova with a c20let last year - so was wanting to put a faster engine into a differant shell if you get what i mean - thanks ha

The 1.8 20v turbo from a mk4/s3/lcr/tt is a very popular choice.

Ok pal - nice one 4 the advice - will have a look into it and show the progress on which i get to slam in lol - i like a challenage not just the simple route of buying a faster car as i been told..

check the dub rides part of the VW related chat section, there are a few 1.8t builds in there with good pics and info. I have a thread in there which I stopped updating shortly after the conversion so its around page 4 or something, some others to look as are kells (now F17 BAD) which should be on the on the first or second page, and Lazy Lunatics should be near the front as well, although his thread is around 250 pages and has a looot of unrelated stuff in it as well! Also check Tshirt2k thread he's put a turbo into his abf 16v
Its fairly straight forward to drop in a 1.8t, dont get put off by people saying just buy a mk4. I'll never regret doing mine and have lost count how many times I was told it was a bad idea! Some advice I will give you though is if you are serious about it dont start with a 1.4, its a hell of a lot of work getting it ready for the extra power you would be much better starting with a GTi which already has the uprated brakes etc that will be needed to handle a 20vt. LL used a 1.4 I think check his thread if you wanna see whats involved, think it starts around page 30. What it will cost to prep the 1.4 would probably be more than just buying an 8v GTi

The point is, you have the wrong base car.
All your suspension, brakes, cooling system etc is wrong for the high powered engines.
You'd be better starting with a non-running 16v and dropping a K04's 1.8T in, at least that way your gearbox, driveshafts, hubs, suspension, brakes etc are up to the job.
You'd have to change all the running gear of your 1.4 to GTI/VR6 spec stuff to make it safe.

Spot on Glen, starting with a 1.4 = ballache, not worth the hassle or expense.

same problem as me, i've got a 1.6 so im saving for a 16v gti n then gunna do a 1.8t conversion
