Right I have had my iMac for a few days now. I have it in the office upstairs and have run an IXOS HDMI cable from the mac (using a mini display port to HDMI adapter) through the ceiling into my amplifier downstairs directly below the office (Pioneer SCLX73), which then feeds both my plasma and projector.
So I can control the mac from downstairs I've got an app called iDisplay for the iPad (which is awesome it can either mirror your screen or become a secondary monitor, only £2.99 too!).
Anyway, when the mac is being displayed through, and on to either the tv or the projector it cuts out fairly irregularly and comes back, very very irritating. when audio is coming through it only comes through mainly on the rear right speaker.
Anyone have any ideas? I can work my way around my pc and I'm sure its a settings thing as the pc works fine through the same setup, but can't get it to do it on the mac?

The same HDMI cable from PC to TV? :huh:
Should stick Windows on it, that'll sort the fruity thing out. Apples need fresh air, Windows provides it :grin:

Haha, yes tried same hdmi, and also another chord hdmi. With the same results. :sad:

Sounds like a similar problem I have with my Xbox 360 slim when using HDMI, it loses video and audio for less than a second but when you're taking a corner in Forza 4 (doesn't make that much difference to my driving, ask these guys :laugh: ) or in a fire fight in blops it's bloody annoying.
Does it cut out on the ipad if you're mirroring it? Does it work if you stream media without using the ipad and the app?
As it's still a new iMac reinstall OS X before you put too much on it, and try it with a fresh install and minimum software needed to make this setup work. If none of that works take it back and try it out in store or get a new one.

It doesn't cut out on the iPad or the macs screen itself which is the odd thing. Even when I'm not using the iPad (which I'm only using really as a big remote control). I don't even have to be playing any media, it will cut in and out when just on the desktop. I'm sure it must be a setting somewhere?(especially as it's also not playing ball on the audio).

What mini display port to HDMI adapter are you using? And what model mac is it?
As they made lots of changes to the display ports and also the quality of adapters is varying.
I have a NEET cables adapter for mine and i do exactly what you are saying with no issues from my 2011 macbook pro.
The HDMI cable i am using is just one i picked up in tesco's too!

If you are running through your Pioneer amp, I would try it running direct to your TV first to see if that works out ok, if that works, then it's your amp's HDMI circuits that are the problem.
I have seen this problem before in situations where there is something inbetween the computer/source and the TV/display.
Often amp makers will source cheap video components just so they can offer the facility without adding a huge cost to the price, but the picture often suffers.
I stopped using my amp for video switching because it wasn't worth it and the TV had more than enough inputs to just switch video sources via the TV.
Buy a proper HDMI switch if you have to use one.

If however, you still have problems running direct with one cable from iMac to the TV, I would next try 2 things:
1) move the iMac right next to the TV and run a shorter cable direct into the TV:
- firstly this will tell you if the longer cable is the problem
- secondly if this doesn't work then it suggests your problem is either with the iMac or the TV
2) if you haven't done so already, try running direct to your projector,
- this will tell you whether its the TV at fault (if the projector is fine, but the TV isn't, then you know it's your TV)
- if both the projector and the TV show the same problem, then it's your iMac - fraid to say it, but I've seen rather a lot of Mac problems recently with using secondary displays, often it's down to either a faulty display adaptor (these break regularly) or a fault with the display chip on the motherboard and since you can't change the display card in an iMac (or Macbook) then you need to send it back to Apple.
