i have a mk3 but may get something newer soon
basically i dont know whether to go for a mk4/5 or 6
i presume they are all better than the mk3? is it simply each one gets better each time?
could someone summarize each one in a few words or do good/bad points
-
oh ho ho, this is going to go well...
-
they're all sh!t...get a MK2........
-
The biggest differences will be the jumps in price. What's your budget for a newer car?
-
Logic jim suggests that the newest must be the best but different things float peoples boats, i myself like every model except for the mk4 which i think looks fat and dumpy, others will disagree.
I own a mk3 but if i had the choice it would be a mk1 campaign all day long.

Correct. (but not as a daily)
In some ways golfs got better with age, but generally better all rounders as opposed to better GTI's.
MK1 = Awesome GTI, MK2 = Slightly More Refined Awesome GTI, MK3 = Modern Car and less of a GTI, MK4 = Refined Car and modern GTIness if you got the 20vT. MK5= Good All Round up to date GTI that has very little in common with it's older siblings and same goes for the 6 (as it's practically the same car)

Mk6 is good but not that good, still like it though.
Oh and too expensive

Yes and No. Quite the opposite in fact.
-
Stick with the Mk3 mate!
Not driven a 6 but the 4's are real dogs except the R32, the 5's are ok they drive nice but no excitement!
-
And what's wrong with a Mk2... why go backwards?
Thom

.
-
He would be going backwards!
-
I'd be quite happy to use a mk1 as a daily.

Until it dies on you within the month!

Pot. Kettle.

Mk4 1.8t ftw the one, leagues ahead of the mk3 and a remap will get it flying
Or think outside of the box and get a Octavia vRS or Bora
-
I've seen some very tastefully modded bora's and the saloon shape lends itself well to lowering, plenty around too.
-
Get an Audi A3
-
Get the cheapest one first, that way, you can work your way through and have owned as many Mk's as you can, which I think would be pretty cool.
