Thinking of going towards a MK5 GTI from my MK4 1.8T GTI
What should i be looking at please ??

A lot depends on what you will want to do to it. Do you intend to mod? If so the Ed30 or Pirelli gives you the best platform to work with in terms of out and out BHP increases.
Ive had both the GTI and now the Pirelli and can honestly say you wont be disappointed with either.

Test drive a manual and a DSG to see which you prefer. If you prefer the DSG make sure it's had been serviced at the correct intervals (evert 40k miles I think?).
If the car has been remapped the diverter valve may fracture, but this is easily fixed with the latest revision diverter valve which is pretty cheap from VW.
Check for rust at the top of the front arches as some earlier mk5s have problems there. Rare, but it happens.

I would try and go for an Ed30 or a 2008 GTI as later standard GTI's came with full leather seats.

Try to find one with xenons too, they are excellent.

My 08 GTI,leather seats was a £1k option. Before delivery it became a free option.Maybe later 08,s the buyers specced them up for free rather than VW fitting as standard???
