A mk3, then you'll realise the mk6 wasn't quite so bad after all.
Keep the MPS and save money so you can spend it on prostitutes, gambling and travel. Not necessarily in that order ...

A Geely for Gilly. :smug:

Focus ST Mountune 260. What a car, I've seen a review where it beat the Focus RS around Bruntenthorpe.

Too thirsty those STs, bearing in mind Gilly's mileage.
If I'm being absolutely serious for a minute to try and answer his question, I don't think there's a better car at £10k than a nearly new Mondeo. I know I'll get annihilated for mentioning it on here but it ticks all his boxes - economical, good to drive etc.

Holland & Holland Overfinch Range Rover.
Reasonable economy. Stuck in traffic? No problem, pop the boot open and a bevvy of drinks are awaiting you to wipe the traffic fury from your mind. See a chav rioter coming towards your car? No problem, pop the boot and blow that sucker away with the two 12 gauges hanging provocatively in their holsters.
Win. Win. And Win.

A Seat Leon FR+ TDI DSG Auto 170 BHP (RRP £ 22,615.00) Sorry someones gotta say it
It ticks the boxes and if you can live with the interior on the MPS then surley the Seat's a step up on that.
I don't like Seat's alloy wheel range though so stick a nice set of BBS CH or CK's on there.
Then get Doc to give it a wee tune

Quirky, save a few squids for your Real Car budget too!
I was doing some work at Volvo in Ghent when they were just putting them round the production line to see how they work, was asked by the then Volvo finance director "being our stereotypical demographic individual, do you like it and would you buy a C30?" my reply was "Nah, would rather buy a Golf" Quickest conversation stopper EVER!
I'm still proud of my response

The 1M looks a good buy to me
Amazing what you can pick up used. It does make me wonder why I spend so much on new cars when you can pick some bargins up for over half the bloody price sometimes.
-
Why i will never buy new.
-
Bit left field maybe, but find a tidy porsche 968 & enjoy spending on fuel the cash you're saving on depreciation
-

How much did they rip you off you pay for the Audi ( if you don't mind me asking )

£20k came with new discs and pads all round, 2 free services, 1 years warranty and i got them to refurb all four wheels. So not exactly ripped off

Thats a great deal and car to be fair. Did you have a VW before you went over to the dark side?
-
Yeah i had a MK5 R32, DBP with recaros  Loved that car! Better than the S3!

£20k? it's an 07 cars isnt it? Seems quite a bit of money to me, but what do I know, I paid more for my 'inferior' GTI.

An 08 57 plate. Last of the pre-facelifts (better looking version) Not that much, i bought it in June 2011 so only just 3 years old, was £32k new.

Whenever the A3/S3 is mentioned, the death knell of a thread, nay a forum, is neigh.

Just have a look what 20k buys you in the used golf market asker, then say a 265bhp s3 is bad value
-
well each to their own i guess, but i think i'd rather start with a decent bhp fig & awd & then sort out the suspension myself, but as i say, we're all different. To my personal way of thinking, I'd be going for an awd 170tdi a3 over a fwd golf gtd, spend the money saved on a couple of mods & enjoy a lot of the benefits of a gtd with the added safety in winter / ability to get all the power down of the awd....... But as Jules has said, the R32 is a hard car to move on from;) Now if it would just stop losing value ......I could keep both kidneys;)
-
Slightly over 10k.... has got to be a BMW 325/330d in E92 format.
-

Its what we did but i find it borring to drive sadly, its a good car and from an engineering point much superior built and finished off imo than the golf but to me its a car nothing more.
I think you should just run the mazda and forget about a change..
-
Cleaned up as it was going a little Peter Tong
OT
I'm with snoopy on the Mazda really
Diesel wise anything with a VAG 1.9 or 2.0 TDI in will be great on fuel

does that mean you are looking to sell... i may know someone thats interested
-
It has crossed my mind recently, but I'm going to keep it another year I think. Although fuel costs are becoming an increasing issue, i only do maybe 5k miles per year so its not too bad for me. Keep your eye on R32OC thou, theres a few people moving back to diesels, so might be a good source. I think the R32 is fairing a bit better than the v6 TT's, but theres a definite drift back to economy.....which makes it a good time to pick one up if you can bear the running costs
-
Gilly, when's the pics of the Mazda getting uploaded?
If you're intent on a diesel for economy then would a 320d or similar not be worth a look. Good mapping potential, good solid car and RWD for those hairy chested man moments.
