oks in my Mk4 i ve got a Gamma unit CD and Tape deck and recently when i turn the volume nob the sound don't always go up i can keep turning it up and nothing then suddenly it well be loud then i turn the other way about one 5th of a turn and it goes super quite.
Any thoughts on the problem ?

Sounds like a dirty/worn volume pot, disasemble and spray some contact cleaner in it, might cure it?

how do i dissemble the volume nob or is it strip radio out and open it up joby?

Yes its a remove stereo and partial disasemble job I'm affraid, can you do that or?

ill give anything a go once, if it foobars up just a excuse to replace with a double din lol

hi can anyone plz help me, have 1997 golf gti, stereo is playing up, i tryed different stereos, and its just cutting up all the time :sad:
its has power, just cutting radios and tapes, no idea why? can anyone help me with wiring .. thannx :huh:

Hi, has the wiring been changed about?/any adaptors?
What head unit is it? the factory Sony?

hi wiring is same as my hubby has ford escort and its working well there, its sony stereo! not factory fitted! no idea why its cutting out! thanx

Mk3.. could be ignition switch, they are known to be troublesome and the car may start etc but the power to radio is sometimes dropped due to contacts inside the switch wearing out, you can buy new switch for 5 or 6 quid on ebay etc, bit of a pain to replace but do-able, if you need a guide let me know and I'll link you to it, or as a temp fix you could run a new 12v ignition live up to the radio.

cool :smiley: many thanx for ur replay, will investigate ignition swich! :rolleyes:, and will let u know if i will have problems! as its very annoying when u listening music and suddenly will cut out, then i put it again and it might play for ten min and then its off again, but power is still on , its just radio and music is off! :sad: thanx again :cool:
