Title: Oil pressure light on below 3k RPM.
Post by: wil0 on 10 August 2011, 18:47
Ive read all the other threads about oil pressure problems and oil lights, but none seem to be relevant.

I changed the oil pump, oil, and senders around 3k ago. Since then i havent driven it for about 8 months, its been sitting in my garage.

When im driving, randomly, above 2k rpm, the oil light comes on on its own, and is solidly lit. It does not blink, but stays on. When i then rev the engine above 3K it then goes out.

I havent pressure tested it as i cant get hold of a tester.

When i look at the oil filter housing, the white sensor for oil pressure is closest to me, and the black temperature? pressure? gauge is nearest the engine. Is this the right way round, and would it affect it?

What does the solid light with no buzzer mean?

Sounds like a pressure problem.

Might be worth doing a oil change or maybe dropping the sump and checking the pick up pipe.

Hi, Ive already changed the pump for a new one a few thousand miles ago, cleaned the pump too. The light stays on constantly and doesn't flash which is strange to me...

Might be worth getting the pressure checked

Every garage should have a tester, I'm sure they'll do your readings for you for a 5er. Try and do cold @ idle, and with a few k rpm, then warm idle and warm at few k rpm and record all results..
