Title: best place to sell
Post by: MSPAberdeen on 10 August 2011, 15:29
Hi Guys,

NOT a sales pitch but any advice welcome.

My wife's baby is leaving her after 10 very happy years and 31500 trouble free miles.
Reason being my youngest son is about to learn to drive and we can't get him insured for her MK4 GTi.
We are downgrading to a new Polo 1.0
Boo !!

Anyway, to cut to the chase. I have meticulously looked after this car, garage kept it, chamois dried it after any rain and it still looks like new. It's in concourse condition so it guts me to accept what was offered by the VW dealership. It really needs to go to a GTi fanatic.

So where's the best place to sell a pristine 2001 Mk4 Gti 5 door with 31500 miles on the clock?

Any pointers?

£2200,- from the Aberdeen VW dealership they say based on Glass's guide but then they are expected a 10 y.o. golf to have over 100k on the clock but only with 31500 on the clock they said they'd never seen anything like it. They were ''honest'' enough to say to sell it to a VW enthusiast who knows what they are after.

Well it is the least popular engine and even with miles you may struggle to sell it.

Worth trying however

Very pleased to say I sold my baby @ £ 3250 and it's gone to an enthusiast who will lavish as much TLC as I did on her over the last decade.
Sad to see her go.

Authotrader seems to be the place to sell !

 £3250 for a 2001 Golf, and it is not even a turbo.

Well even our the owner of our local garage (who have serviced it for us since the VW warranty ran out) said he has never seen or dealt with a car like it in such pristine condition in 34 years in the trade. I think he knows his stuff. So happy it's going to someone who'll loook after it.

Only sold coz of our 17 year old about to star driving and cannot get insurance for him on the GTi.

Congrats for getting such a good price. Autotrader does seem to be better if your car is worth a reasonable amount, as all cars listed on there are slightly higher price wise, than they are realistically worth.
