If the lift pump primes when ignition is turned on, but there is no fuel when cranking and the filter is clean (checked a minute ago) Does that mean the main pump has died
-
Open up the inspection hole for the tank and have a look at the pump, could have got full of rubbish :)
-
Where is it exactly, ive heard of it lol
Cheers, hopefully it is, think a near on empty tank for a few months isnt the best for it!

Well if you have no fuel being delivered then the pump is in trouble or the lines are blocked.

Should be in the boot or under the rear seats, i think..

Cheers mate, I dont think the in tank one is blocked though, as I had loads of fuel pour out of the filter?
Great does that mean removing the whole pump and fuel line assembly
-
You'll still have fuel in the filter even if the lift pump in the tank is weak. If you can fill the tank the car may run fine, as when the tank is full the lift pump does very little. That would help diagnose it.
The lift pump is the cheaper one to replace, and seems to be the more prone to failure. Lift the carpet in the boot, remove the three screws holding the metal cover in place over the tank, then unscrew the big plastic retaining ring and you can remove the fuel gauge and pump assembly from the tank. Best not to be smoking.

Ok Ill take a look at it cheers mate, things is also, that it had a leak on the flow going to the injectors, I tighten this up, then nothing came out of the injectors, so obviously fuel was getting up to near the injectors. Sounds it could the lift pump, if that goes, then obviously it cant get fuel to the main pump, so would make sense.
I topped it up with 10 litres but didnt start it.
I was going to try and loosen nuts off with a blow torch whilst having a fag too :lipsrsealed:
cheers mate

Maybe a stupid question, but on the fuel filter, how many washers should there be, 2 or 4. Ive had a look but on the side I didnt take off it looks like 1 washer, but the side I took off wont stop leaking, it's done up with my might!

Should be 2, on both sides of the banjo bolt around the union

Ahh ok, probably why its leaking, solved my issue, was a knackered wire to the injectors! Wasted all that time getting the pump out etc!!

Ill just put this question here. If my car runs on two cylinders and the spark plugs and ht leads to cyl 3+4 are fine, does that basically mean my engines f'd up.
Those cylinders spark plugs are clean, unlike 1+2 which are fine, theres are pitch black due to a rich map, 3+4 are clean due to sucking more air to make the mixture right? I'll get a compressor tester on it. not looking good though
