Title: Passenger side light on Golf GTI not working, only on full beam!
Post by: dubchaser on 15 April 2005, 08:46
The passenger side light does'nt work when I turn the lights on.  It works on side lights and when I pull the stalk for full beam but it doesn't work on the normal driving beam.  Drivers side is fine.  Any ideas.  I've checked the fuses and replaced the bulb.  It's not the bulb as it works on full beam.  It's not the fuses as they are not blown.  I can't see any corrosion on the bulb connector contacts either.  I need to get this sorted as I don't want to get pulled over by the cops for a light!

how is it not the bulb if it only works on full beam? they are two different filaments for dip & main beam

Well he said he replaced the bulb ;)

First thing I'd do is whip out my thingy volt meter and check that I get 12v to the main beam pin when the lights are on.  I assume you know there is a seperate fuse for each side so I won't mention it ;)

Follow the wiring as far up the loom as you can, oh and if you had the inner grill spotlamps at one time you'll have a short lenght of loom added to the lighting plugs to supply the spotlights, make sure the plugs are in good condition where the spot loom joins the main loom.

I second that Doh as it turns out it was the bulb.  The one I replaced it with had a small break in the filament you could'nt see with your eyes.

Problem sorted.  Cheers guys.
