My dell computer is starting to get slow, I've had it for like 3 years now. I'm thinking now why do I need a big old computer when all I use it for is the internet, got a family one to do work on. I was thinking a laptop but again I only use the internet, I'm not clued up on computers at all so to people that do know, what am I best getting. I was thinking of just getting a tablet, but I would like it to tune my car aswell as that laptop is seriously slow!

What's your budget?
What are the specs (CPK and RAM) of your current comps. Simple increase in RAM makes a hell of a difference if all you are doing is surfing the internet.

went through the same thing recently when my desktop blew up got a laptop, takes up less space can take it with you on wifi cant believe didnt get a laptop before

Save the money, backup your files and blitz the old one back to factory defaults (assuming you have the restore disk), reload your anti-virus and apps. Will run much quicker. Might take a good few hours to re-instate it as you like it...
You could also try a combination of (in this order)
- Uninstall all old progs you don't use
- Perform a Windows Disk clean up
- Defragment the Hard drive..(at least twice if using the windows defragmenter)
-
As above, no need for a new laptop if you just use the net and a tablet will always need a PC/Laptop, it will never replace it.
Maybe just upgrade the ram to speed it up. Otherwise do the above, don't install anything on it other than what's necessary and get a tablet.

Go to download.com
Get Advanced system care 4

Buy a Mac, mines 4 years old and still runs like new!

Reinstall Windows, it'll be the cheaper option. Put the new laptop/tablet money towards your car ;)
It's an inherent 'bug' in the file system Windows uses (NTFS), in general the older the PC the larger the MFT database, the slower the PC. Fortunately modern PC's/Laptops are quick enough and you won't notice the problem as much.

Cheers for the replies, just doing a defrag atm, then I'll go through and delete stuff I dont need. erm dont think Ive got the reload disc anymore! Yer think I may just increase the ram, just found out im getting a bigger room so will have a proper desk then, so i'll keep it!
I do need to get my car mapped too

Do you still have the license key? It should be on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop, possibly under the battery.
Let me know what version of Windows and I'll see if I can sort you out a disc or download.

Does the laptop have a recovery partition?

Reinstall windows. Windows needs a good clear out every few years. Backup anything you need first to an external hard drive first though
