As above looks like it from what i can see unless its just a mark on the wheel. Whiteworm often looks like a white line.
Also unless its a reflection looks like the badge has it which is common too.

Mine are little worse than the pics so I was glad to hear at the last service all four wheels were to be replaced under warranty. The car was booked in today and the Mrs (with two todlers in tow) has just waited at the dealership for over two hours while they were being fitted...to be told, "Sorry Luv, it ain't bad enough now for a warranty job, VW UK will not honour our claim and we might be out of pocket"

Anyone got any advice as all they will give me is VW UK Service number to moan to...

Two issues for me, firstly why agree to do something only to be overruled by another dealership employee....and keep us waiting two hours to say so....

If whiteworm is a known issue it's only going to get worse. I have one year of warranty left so I can hope they get bad enough (what ever that is) by Sep 2012.

cheers

Lee

In the third year of warranty its the garage that pays for the work. So you'd have a better chance now before your 2 year VW UK warranty runs out :)

VW Customer services are having none of it, now they reckon its "impact damage"  because I would have had the tyres changed at some point. Thats correct I have, at the VW dealership under the service plan, complete muppets.

Whiteworm on 17" Monzas, Golf Mk5 GTI, Shadow Blue. All wheels similarly affected. Nice!

Most surfaces are smooth to the touch.

I worked in the aircraft industry and this type of corrosion is a b!tch to fix. evenmore so when you need a 'bare' aluminium looking surface after fixing it. here's a link to what was required to fix filiform corrosion.

I agree.
Aren't the 17" Monzas painted anyway?
Whiteworm only applies to diamond cut and lacquered wheels doesn't it?

You do get corrosion under the paint of painted wheels but it generally doesn't appear in the same way as 'white worm'.

Yes the 17s are painted. That 17 i have seen similar looking before at a dealer, the yellow swirls was due to curb rubbing

How the hell can anyone have wheels like that?! It's like they drove onto and back down the frickin' kerb! I, as a great lover of the 4 rings and don't have standard equipment like you guys, lower my passenger mirror when parking next to a kerb to avoid this!!

Took my car in for a service today and mentioned the 2 tiny spots on my Vancouver wheel. Told them it was Filiform corrosion (thought I'd hit them with the technical term). To be honest I thought they would chase me as there is only 10 months left on the warranty and it wasn't the main dealer I had bought the car from.  Couldn't believe when I went to pick the car up that they have ordered a new alloy for me!!

Result.

I had the two passenger side ones replaced due to white worm no questions asked.  I hadn't damaged them at all.
