OK so I've bought a mk3 8v GTI, and I'm well aware they're a bit underpowered! In the past I've fitted a decat to an Ibiza GTI with this engine and it did help reducing the engines nasty mid range flat spot, but I'm wondering if theres anything else I can do without breaking the bank to free it up a bit? Its been sat for a while so a good service is in order as well. I've heard of people putting mk2 digifant cams into them as they're not so eco-minded, will this help also?
-
Yep mk2 digi cam, panel filter and cold air feed.
-
What kind of gains should I expect from the above plus a de-cat? And will it pull strongly through the revs like a mk2 digi would?

5bhp to 10bhp and yes will help its response and how it feels

-
I believe it is yea, well its a 94 M plate so I assume so

Being an early one it will / may be a 2e, AGG was 1996 onwards
-
How can I identify a 2e from an AGG? And whats the difference?

Early lump is better, post a picture or check the logbook

The early lump would be ADY >> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Mk3-Golf-GTi-Vento-Sharan-Corrado-2-0-engine-ADY-/350444443701?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item51981dd835 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Mk3-Golf-GTi-Vento-Sharan-Corrado-2-0-engine-ADY-/350444443701?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item51981dd835)
but thats same as mine (AGG)
EDIT:

It would appear I have a 2E, or so it says on the sticker on the cambelt cover anyway. Do the above tuning tips still apply?
-
so the mk2 digi cams wont fit the AGG code?

Yes it will but I believe you need some machining done.

the cams need machining?
